Proclaiming Ashburton a Borough under "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876."

A PROCLAMATION.

W HER E A S by section seventeen of "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," the
Governor is empowered by Proclamation to declare
any district in New Zealand to be a borough under
the said Act, from and after a day to be named in
such Proclamation:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
power and authority vested in me by the said Act,
do hereby proclaim and declare that the District of
the Township of Ashburton shall be and the same is
hereby constituted, as from the thirtieth day of
July, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight,
a borough under the said Act; and that the name of
such borough shall be the Borough of Ashburton,
and that the boundaries of such borough shall be
those specified in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

BOUNDED towards the North-east by Rural Sections
Nos. 4906 and 5800, and also by lines in continuation
of the south-west boundaries of these sections, for a
distance of about eighty-nine (89) chains; towards
the North-west by Rural Section No. 4905, and also
by lines in continuation of the south-eastern boun-
dary thereof, a distance of about forty-five (45)
chains; towards the South-east by Rural Sections
Nos. 4904 and 4873, and also by lines in continuation
of their north-western boundaries, a distance of about
ninety-seven (97) chains; and towards the South-
west by the River Ashburton: as the same is de-
lineated on the plans deposited in the Provincial
District Survey Office, Christchurch.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael
and Saint George; Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Depen-
dencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same;
and issued under the Seal of the said
Colony, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this thirtieth day of July,
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-eight.

Proclaiming Deposit of Memorial Plan of certain
Lands taken for purposes of the Railway from
Auckland to Newcastle, and Onehunga Branch
(portions of).

A PROCLAMATION.

W HER E A S by "The Immigration and Public
Works Act, 1872," it is, among other things,
enacted that, whenever it shall become necessary
that any land which the Governor or the Minister is,
by or under the Acts therein mentioned, or any Act
authorizing the construction of any railway by the
Governor or Minister, authorized to purchase or take
for such railway, or any portion thereof, on or over
which a railway authorized by the said Acts, or any
Act to be passed in pursuance thereof, has been or
may hereafter be constructed, should be vested in
Her Majesty the Queen, it shall be lawful for the
Governor or the Minister to cause a map of all such
lands as may have been taken or purchased under
