WHEREAS by a Royal Commission under the hand of His Excellency the Governor in Council, dated
the 11th day of May, 1878, the undersigned Charles Heaphy, Esq., V.C., Commissioner of Native
Reserves, was appointed a Commissioner to inquire respecting the claims of all or any aboriginal natives
claiming to be owners or otherwise beneficially interested in the lands in the Provincial District of
Wellington known as the Native Reserved "Tenths," or into the purposes and objects for which such lands
respectively may have been intended, or to which their rents and profits should be applied; and, in pursuance
of such inquiry, to take evidence on oath or otherwise, and to report to the Governor on the same:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of such Commission and directions, I do hereby give notice that I shall,
on Friday, the 2nd of August, 1878, and the following days, at the Maori Hostelry, Wellington, proceed to
inquire into the claims of the said Natives to the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereunder written, and
into the proper manner in which the rents and profits derivable from such lands should be applied; and do
call on all such Natives claiming ownership or beneficial interest in such lands, and on all other persons
claiming interests therein, to appear at the above-mentioned time and place to prove their claims and
interests.
