Re-defining Districts under “The Licensing Act, 1873.”

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by “The Licensing Act, 1873,” it is,
amongst other things, enacted that the
Governor shall, as soon as conveniently may be
after the passing of the said Act, by Proclamation in
the Government Gazette, define such territorial divi-
sions as he may think proper to be licensing dis-
tricts for the purposes of the said Act, and from
time to time may alter and redefine the boundaries of
the same :
And whereas by a Proclamation bearing date the
twenty-third day of February, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-four, the Districts of Papakaio
and Maerewhenua were, amongst others, constituted
under the said “Licensing Act, 1873:” And whereas
it is expedient to alter and redefine the boundaries
thereof:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of
the hereinbefore recited Act, and of every power and
authority enabling me in this behalf, do hereby alter
and redefine the boundaries of the said Districts of
Papakaio and Maerewhenua, as the same are defined
and set forth in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
PAPAKAIO DISTRICT.
BOUNDED on the North by the Waitaki River;
towards the South-east by the sea; on the South by
the Oamaru Town; West by the Oamaru Stream to
the Big Hill, thence by the southern boundary of
the Awamoko and Maerewhenua Hundreds to the
south-west corner of the Maerewhenua Hundred;
and on the West by the western boundary line of
the Maerewhenua Hundred to the Maerewhenua
River, and thence by that stream to the Waitaki
River.
MAEREWHENUA DISTRICT.
Bounded on the East by the Papakaio and Kaka
nui Districts, from the Waitaki River to the south-
western corner of the Kakanui Hundred; thence on
the South-east by a right line drawn to the summit
of the Kakanui Peak; thence on the South-west and
South by the Naseby District to Mount Ida; thence
on the West by the west branch of the Otamakau
River, and by that river to the Waitaki; and on the
North by the Waitaki.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl
of Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the fifth section of the Ordinance
of the Superintendent and Provincial Council
of the Province of Otago shortly intituled "The Kaka-
nui Harbour Board Ordinance, 1873," it is enacted
that, on the death, resignation, or absence from the
said province for six consecutive calendar months of
any member, the Superintendent shall appoint, by
Proclamation in the Otago Provincial Government
Gazette, either permanently or temporarily, as occasion
may require, another or other fit and proper person
or persons to be a member or members of the Kaka-
nui Harbour Board in the room of the member or
members so dying, resigning, or becoming incapable
to act, or continuing absent as aforesaid :
And whereas by the seventh section of "The
Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875," all the powers,
duties, and functions which, immediately before the
date of the abolition thereunder of any province,
were, under or by virtue of any law not expressly or
impliedly repealed or altered thereby, vested in or to
be exercised or performed by the Superintendent of
such abolished province, either alone or with the
advice and consent of or on the recommendation of
the Executive or Provincial Council of such province,
are, for the purposes of the district included within
such abolished province, vested in and are to be ex-
ercised and performed by the Governor:
And whereas John McLennan, William Craig, and
Nugent Wade, three of the members appointed by
the third section of the aforesaid Ordinance, have
heretofore resigned their offices as members of the
said Board, and James Wheatley, another of the
members of the said Board, has died, and it is neces-
sary that other fit and proper persons should be ap-
pointed members of the said Board in their places:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers and authorities vested in me by the said
recited Ordinance and Act, and of every other power
and authority vested in me in that behalf, do pro-
claim and appoint the Hon. Mathew Holmes, George
Murray Webster, William Moody, and Alexander
Thomson, members of the said Board, in room of
the members resigned and deceased as aforesaid—
that is to say, Mathew Holmes in the place of John
McLennan, George Murray Webster in the place
of William Craig, William Moody in the place of
