9. The Resident Magistrate shall, on the request
of the Returning Officer, cause such officer to be sup-
plied with a sufficient number of copies of the voters'
roll as may be necessary for the purposes of the elec-
tions in the district.
10. All the proceedings in any election of the first
Trustees of a district shall, as far as possible, be the
same as is provided by "The Regulation of Local
Elections Act, 1876," for filling an ordinary vacancy.

A PROCLAMATION.

B
Y virtue of the powers and authorities vested in
me by the seventh section of "The Rabbit
Nuisance Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1877," I,
George Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby
proclaim and declare that, from and after the day of
the date hereof, "The Regulation of Local Elections
Act, 1876," shall come into force in the Aparima
Rabbit District, as constituted by Order in Council
of the twentieth day of April, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-eight:

And I do hereby further proclaim and declare
that the first election of Trustees of the said dis-
trict shall be held on the twenty-second day of May
next, at the hour of noon, at the Schoolhouse at
Gummie's Bush; and I appoint

JOHN ROBERTS MILLS,

to be Returning Officer to conduct the first elections
of Trustees for the said district.

At the Government House, at Auckland, this
twentieth day of April, 1878.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

HEREAS by "The Rabbit Nuisance Act 1876
Amendment Act, 1877," it is enacted that, in
addition to the power of proclaiming districts given
by the third section of "The Rabbit Nuisance Act,
1876," the Governor might from time to time, by
Order in Council, direct that any part of the colony
to be defined therein should be a rabbit district for
the purposes of "The Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1876:"

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of the said colony, and in
exercise of the powers vested in me by the firstly
hereinbefore recited Act, do hereby order and direct
that that part of the colony described in the Schedule
hereto shall, from and after the date hereof, be and
the same is hereby constituted a district for the pur-
poses of "The Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1876," and shall
be named and known as the Aparima Rabbit District,
and the boundaries of such district shall be those
defined in the Schedule hereto. And with the like
advice and consent, I do hereby order that the first
election of Trustees for the said district shall be held
on the twenty-second day of May next, at the hour
of noon, at the Schoolhouse, at Gummie's Bush.

SCHEDULE.

BOUNDED towards the North by the Wairio and part
of the Taringatura Districts; towards the East by
Southland County; towards the South by the ocean
to Kolac's Bay; towards the West by a line running
due north over Mount Ferndunlaw to Wairio Dis-
trict, the starting point.

Lands taken for the purpose of a portion of the
Railway from Kaipara through Riverhead to Auck-
land-(Auckland Contract). Total length, 10 miles
29 chains.

A MEMORIAL

LAID before His Excellency the Governor by the
Minister for Public Works, pursuant to the provisions
of "The Public Works Act, 1876," containing an
accurate description of the lands proposed to be
taken for a certain public work-to wit, the con-
struction of a portion of the railway from Kaipara
through Riverhead to Auckland-(Auckland con-
tract).

PARISH OF WAITEMATA, NEWMARKET HIGHWAY
DISTRICT.

COMMENCING at a point which is situated on the Auck-
land and Mercer Railway, as described in the Pro-
clamation dated the 8th August, 1872, and published
in the New Zealand Gazette No. 40, of the 12th
August, 1872, within Lot 23, Section 4, Suburbs
