The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.
The births were 2 more than in February.
The deaths were 37 more in number than the deaths in February.
Of the deaths, males contributed 69; females, 47: 61 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 52.59
per cent. of the whole number; 51 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
There were 5 deaths of persons over 65 years of age: 4 of these persons were males and 1 a female; 1 male of 72 died at
Wellington; 1 male of 77 at Nelson; 1 male of 74 and 1 female of 70 at Christchurch; and 1 male of 68 at Dunedin.
CAUSES OF DEATH.
THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and upwards, and
the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs named, and that were registered, during the Month of
March, 1878.
