Gold-Mining Lease to be granted.
PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of
"The Mines Act, 1877," and with the regulations
made under that Act for the granting of leases for
gold-mining purposes, it is hereby notified that it is
intended to grant a lease for gold-mining purposes of
Crown lands to the applicant specified in the annexed
Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against
such lease.

Objections to granting such lease, stating the
grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and
lodged with the Warden at Collingwood, on or before
the 3rd day of May, 1878.

may be seen at the Warden's Office at Collingwood.

JOHN ROSS and PARTY. Style under which it is
intended to conduct the business: "Sphinx Gold-
Mining Company." Sixteen acres, in the Golden
Bay Mining District.

SIR,-I have the honor to notify, in accordance with
clause 145 of "The Municipal Corporations Act,
1876,"
that a poll was taken in due form, on Satur-
day, 29th December, 1877, in the Town Hall, Mas-
terton, on the proposal of the Borough Council to
raise the sum of £8,000 by way of special loan, of
which the principal and interest shall be secured on
the general rates of the borough, for the under-
mentioned public works:-

the Portmaster, Brisbane, are published for
general information.

SHOAL, TRINITY BAY.

THE position of the shoal reported by Captain
Saunders, of the s.s. "Alexandra," and of which a
notice was published from this office on the 16th
November last, having been examined by Lieut.
Connor, R.N., the officer in charge of the Admiralty
Survey, the supposed danger has been found to be
the north-east extremity of the main reef, which lies
in the following position, viz.,—

the extremity of Island Point, N.W. by W. W.
Round Hill ... ... S. by W. westerly.

Vessels passing along the coast will be clear of this
danger while keeping the two remarkable hills denoted
on the chart as 2,652 and 2,710 feet in height respec-
