Importation of Sheep into New South Wales.
Colonial Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 11th March, 1878.
THE following letter from the Colonial Secretary
of New South Wales is published for general
information.
J. BALLANCE,
(in the absence of the Colonial Secretary).
Colonial Secretary's Office,
Sydney, 22nd February, 1878.
SIR,—In acknowledging the receipt of your telegram
of the 14th instant, stating that the sheep in the
whole of New Zealand are perfectly free from all
diseases which the prohibition of importation was
designed to bar, and that neither foot and mouth
disease, pleuro-pneumonia, nor rinderpest exist in
any part of your colony, I have the honor to invite
your attention to the provisions of the New South
Wales "Sheep Act of 1866," and of "The Diseases in
Sheep Act Amendment Act of 1876" (copies of which
were forwarded to you in my letter of the 2nd of
this month); and to request that you will be good
enough to state whether scab exists in New Zealand,
as, if it does, it would preclude the landing of sheep
therefrom in this colony except for quarantine.
I have, &c.,
M. FITZPATRICK.
The Hon. the Colonial Secretary of
New Zealand, Wellington.
Notice by Mayor of Hokitika under Section 145 of

Town Clerk's Office,
Hokitika, January, 1878.
SIR,—I have the honor to give you notice that, at a

cipal Corporations Act, 1876," on the twenty-eighth
day of December, 1877, a resolution was carried to

I have the honor to request that you will have
