Town of Balclutha proclaimed a Borough under
"The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876."

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the fifteenth section of "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," it is
enacted that the Governor may, by Proclamation,
declare any of the several places specified in the
Third Schedule to the said Act in which a Municipal
Corporation has been established under the provi-
sions of an Ordinance of the Province of Otago
intituled "The Otago Municipal Corporations Ordi-
nance, 1865," to be a borough constituted under
the said "Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," from
a day to be named in such Proclamation; subject,
however, to certain conditions in the said section
mentioned: And whereas the Town of Balclutha,
in the Provincial District of Otago, is one of the
places specified in the said Third Schedule, and a
petition has been presented to His Excellency the
Governor by fifty-four of the ratepayers of such
town praying him to constitute such town into a
borough under the said "Municipal Corporations
Act, 1876," and such petition was, on the fourteenth
day of September, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-seven, publicly notified, and no petition
from an equal or greater number of such ratepayers
was presented to His Excellency within two months
after such public notification praying him not to
assent to the prayer of such first-mentioned petition:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in
exercise and pursuance of all powers and authorities
enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby proclaim
and declare that from the fifteenth day of November,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven, the
said Town of Balclutha shall be a borough consti-
tuted under the said "Municipal Corporations Act,
1876," and shall be called the Borough of Balclutha;
and that the boundaries of such borough shall be
those specified in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that area in the Provincial District of Otago,
containing by admeasurement five hundred and sixty-
eight (568) acres one (1) rood and twenty-nine (29)
poles, more or less, being the Municipality of Bal-
clutha, formerly known as Sections numbered re-
spectively one (1), two (2), three (3), four (4), five
(5), six (6), seven (7), and eight (8), Block thirty-
five (XXXV.), Clutha District, and part of Section
numbered forty-four (44), Block one (I.), Hillend
District and Crown lands. Bounded towards the
North by the Clutha River, three thousand five
hundred (3500) links; towards the West by Block
numbered two (II.), Hillend District, one thousand
three hundred (1300) links; towards the North by
other part of the said Section numbered forty-four
(44), two thousand four hundred (2400) links; to-
wards the North-east by other part of the said Section
numbered forty four (44), four thousand (4000) links
and four thousand two hundred (4200) links; also
by the Clutha River, one thousand two hundred
(1200) links; towards the South-east by Section
numbered (forty-three) 43, Block one (I.), Hillend
District, and a road line, one thousand two hundred
(1200) links; towards the South and South-east by
the Clutha River, ten thousand two hundred (10200)
links; towards the South-west by a road line, two
thousand five hundred and twenty (2520) links; and
towards the North-west by Section numbered nine
(9), Block thirty-five (XXXV.), Clutha District, and
a road line, five thousand six hundred and ten (5610)
links; be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl
of Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and
Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
fifteenth day of November, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-seven.
