Description of Reserve. Purpose of Reserve.
river for a distance of 120 chains or thereabouts;

thence in a north-easterly direction 20 chains or
thereabouts; thence in a north-westerly, westerly,
and southerly direction across the public road to
the eastern boundary of Rural Section No. 87,
158 chains or thereabouts, thence in a south-
easterly direction along the eastern boundary of
Rural Sections No. 87 and No. 88 to the com-
mencing point, 20 chains or thereabouts.
Also all that piece or parcel of land situate on
the southern and western bank of the Buller
River, commencing at the line of high watermark
opposite to and in a line with the western boun-
dary of Section No. 52 (Native reserve), thence in
a north-westerly direction along the line of high
watermark to a point opposite to and in a line
with the south-eastern boundary of Rural Sec-
tion No. 205, thence in a south-westerly direction
partly along the south-eastern boundary of Rural
Section No. 205, 410 links or thereabouts, thence
parallel to the line of high watermark through
Crown lands, public road, Rural Sections Nos.
235, 234, public roads to the intersection of the
western boundary of Section No. 52 (Native
reserve); thence in a northerly direction to the
point of commencement, 410links, or thereabouts.
Also all that piece or parcel of land situate on
the said bank of the said river, commencing at
the line of high watermark, opposite to and in a
line with the south-eastern boundary of Rural
Section No. 205, and lying between the high
waterline and the eastern boundaries of Rural
Section No. 205, Section No. 48 (Native reserve),
Rural Sections Nos. 203, 202B, 201c, so much of
the public road, 201D, 200, 198, 197, so much of
the public road, Nos. 195, 194, 193, 59, so much
of the public road 46 (Native reserve), and ter-
minating at the line of high watermark opposite
to and in a line with the north-western boundary
of the said Native reserve.
The said pieces or parcels of land are delineated
in red upon the plan marked P.W.D. 5416,
which plan is deposited in the office of the
Minister for Public Works, at Wellington. | |

Delegating certain Powers under "The Gold Fields
Act, 1866."

NORMANBY, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-fourth day of January, 1877.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by "The Gold Fields Act, 1866,"
(hereinafter called "the said Act,") it is,
among other things, enacted that it shall be lawful
for the Governor in Council, under his hand and the
Public Seal of the Colony, from time to time to
delegate to the Superintendent of any province, or
to such other person as the Governor may deem fit,
all or any of the powers vested in the Governor or
the Governor in Council by this Act, except the
powers conferred by sections twenty-two, forty,
forty-eight, sixty, ninety-six, and one hundred and
seven thereof, subject or not to any limitations or
restrictions as he may think fit, and in like manner
to alter or revoke any such powers: And whereas,
by an Order in Council made and issued under the
authority of the said Act, bearing date the sixteenth
day of November last past, and published in the
New Zealand Gazette of the sixteenth day of Novem-
ber aforesaid, certain powers under the said Act
were delegated unto the Honorable George McLean,
as and in manner more particularly set forth in the

said Order in Council: And whereas it is expedient
that certain of such powers should be delegated as
hereinafter mentioned:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said Colony, and in pursu-
ance and exercise of the power and authority vested
in me by the said Act, do hereby delegate unto

JAMES PILLANS MAITLAND,
of Dunedin, Esquire, and the Commissioner of
Crown Lands in the Provincial District of Otago, all
the powers vested in the Governor in Council, or in
the Governor, under the twenty-ninth, thirty-second,
thirty-fifth, forty-first, forty-fourth, forty-fifth, forty-
sixth, and forty-seventh sections of the said Act,
and as the same sections or any of them may be
amended by any subsequent Act: And with the like
advice and consent as aforesaid, I do hereby order
and declare that the powers hereby delegated shall be
exercised and performed by the said James Pillans
Maitland within the Provincial District of Otago,
and so long only as he shall hold the office of Com-
missioner of Crown Lands as aforesaid; and that all
such powers shall be exercised in accordance with
any regulations now in force under the said Act, or
that may hereafter be in force, so far as the same
relate to the said powers hereby delegated, and
subject also to the consent and approval of the
Waste Land Board of the said provincial district:
And lastly, with the like advice and consent as afore-
said, and in further pursuance and exercise of the
said power and authority, I do hereby revoke the
said Order in Council of the sixteenth day of Novem-
ber last, and the delegations thereby conferred, but
so far only as the same affects the powers delegated
by this present Order in Council or may be inconsis-
tent with the exercise of the powers hereby delegated
or intended so to be.

Persons entitled to Land under "The Immigrants
Land Act, 1875."

NORMANBY, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-fourth day of January, 1877.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

W HEREAS by "The Immigrants Land Act
Amendment Act, 1875," it is enacted that in
any case where any person, who, since the passing of
"The Immigrants Land Act, 1873," (hereinafter re-
ferred to as "the said Act,") and prior to the coming
into operation of the now reciting Act, has paid his
own passage to the colony with the intention of
settling upon and cultivating land therein, and who
has omitted to obtain any certificate or to do any
other act by the said Act required to entitle him to
a free grant of land thereunder, whether such
omission shall have occurred prior to or after arrival
in the colony, it shall be lawful for the Governor, by
Order in Council, on receiving proof that such person
had a bona fide intention to comply with the said
Act, to direct and declare that such person shall have
and be entitled to all the privileges and benefits which
he would have had under the said Act but for such
omission as aforesaid: And further that every such
Order in Council shall state specifically the nature of
the omission in respect of which such Order shall be
made, and shall be forthwith published in the New
Zealand Gazette
; and thereupon the person named in
such Order in Council shall have all the privileges
