- A large proportion of Mr. Lethbridge's sheep are clean,
although scab still exists in a separate flock, for which the
owner hopes shortly to obtain a clean certificate.
† Since making up my returns, I regret having had to cancel
to Messrs. Owen and Lethbridge, in consequence of a scabby
lamb from the flock of Mr. Lethbridge having mixed. No
actual scab has appeared. Mr. Owen, however, lost no time in
having the flock dipped, with a view to prevent an outbreak of
the disease in the same.

SIR, —I have the honor, in forwarding my Returns of
Sheep for the Rangitikei and West Coast District,
to report an increase of 18,647 upon last year's
returns, making a difference in the amount of assess-
ment of £38 17s. 11d. in favour of the present
returns. It will be seen at the same time that scab
has not been entirely eradicated from the district;
I am glad, however, to say there is only one flock
actually scabby, as compared with three in my last
Report for 1875.
I drew attention in my last Report to the rapid
increase the sheep-louse was making throughout the
district. I am of opinion that the only remedy for
this would be to have all flocks dipped once every
year. I feel sure that every flockowner who has
done this will bear me out that their flocks have
been benefited to more than the cost of dipping by
so doing.
There is a marked improvement in the breed-
