Reports of Sheep Inspectors for the Wairarapa and
East Coast, and Rangitikei-Manawatu Districts.

Greytown, 31st December, 1876.

SIR,—I have the honor to forward the Annual
Report for the year ending 31st December,
1876. I very much regret having to report that
there are still some infected flocks in the district. I
believe the majority of the infected flocks will prove
clean when inspected. Owing to the exertions of the
neighbouring settlers last year, and their continued
supervision, the Native flocks at Longbush and
Mungahuia remain clean up to date.

I am perfectly satisfied that there is no insur-
mountable obstacle in the way of scab being cleared
out of this district; but I think, before that can be
done, greater power will require to be given In-
spectors. The expense that many sheepowners are put
to, whose flocks may unfortunately have become dis-
eased, is often of no avail through the neglect or mis-
management of their neighbours. Should the flocks
about Wainuioru and Hautotara become diseased, the
whole of the Wairarapa will suffer. It would be
sure to spread on to the Coast, when it would most
certainly take years to get clear of it, and cost the
