Return of Agricultural Statistics of the Provincial District of Canterbury.
THE following RETURN OF AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS of the Provincial District of CANTERBURY, in February, 1877, is published for general information :-
Registrar-General's Office, Wellington 12th March, 1877.
N.B.-The differences between the estimated Crops of 1876 and 1877, for the Provincial District, are as follows :-
Wheat (bushels) ... ... ... 1876. 1,770,363 ... ... ... 1877. 2,707,625 Increase, 937,262 Bushels.
Oats (bushels) ... ... ... 2,788,688 ... ... ... 2,106,800 Decrease, 681,888
Barley (bushels) ... ... ... 620,699 ... ... ... 505,700 Decrease, 114,999
Potatoes (tons) ... ... ... 17,895 ... ... ... 19,886 Increase, 1,991 Tons.
But it has been calculated in the Registrar-General's Office that the above figures for 1877 are in excess of the actual yield by the under-mentioned amounts, as in several of the districts con-
siderable damage has been done to the Crops by bad weather since the COLLECTORS obtained their Returns. These amounts have been calculated on the estimated proportions of damage sustained.
