the resignation by
CAMPBELL THOMSON, Esq.,
of the office of Judge of the Assessment Court for
the District comprised within the County of Whaka-
tane.

PATENT for an Invention for Preventing the
Scouring of Shingle around the Approaches and
Piers of Bridges, and for Staying the Destructive
Force of the rapid flow of Rivers on to Bridges and
other Works. This is to notify that BARTHOLOMEW
WARD, of Timaru, did, on the sixteenth day of No-
vember last, deposit at the Office of the Patent
Officer, in the Colonial Secretary's Office in Welling-
ton, a Specification or Instrument in writing under
his hand and seal, particularly describing and ascer-
taining the nature of the said Invention, and in what
manner the same is to be performed, and that by
reason of such deposit the said Invention is protected
and secured to him exclusively for the term of six
calendar months thence next ensuing.
And I do further notify that the said Bartholomew
Ward has given notice in writing at my Office of his
intention to proceed with his application for Letters
Patent for the said Invention, and that I have ap-
pointed Friday, the twenty-third day of March next,
at eleven o'clock in the forenoon, at my Office, to
hear and consider the said application, and all
objections thereto; and I do hereby require all per-
sons having an interest in opposing the grant of such
Letters Patent to leave on or before the nineteenth
day of March next, at my Office in Wellington, par-
ticulars in writing of their objections to the said
application, otherwise they will be precluded from
urging the same.
Given under my hand this fifteenth day of Decem-
ber, 1876.

of land hereinafter described will be brought
under the provisions of "The Land Transfer Act,
1870," unless caveat be lodged forbidding the same
within one calendar month from the date of publica-
tion of this notice in the Gazette.
THOMAS YOUNGER, of the City of Nelson, Sur-
veyor, Applicant.-13 perches, being part of Section
424, on the plan of the said City, having a frontage of
60 feet to Nile Street East, with a depth backward at
right angles thereto, along Alton Street, of 60 feet.
THOMAS WELLS, of the City of Nelson,
Brewer, Applicant.-1 rood 18 perches, being part of
Section 424 on the plan of the said City. Bounded
-North, partly (18 feet) by other part of same sec-
tion, partly (50 feet) by Section 425; East (120 feet
and 190 feet) by other parts of same Section 424;
South, partly (50 feet) by Nile Street East, partly
(18 feet) by other part of same section; West
(150 feet and 160 feet) by other parts of same sec-
tion.
JAMES REILLY, of Waitapu, in the District of
Takaka, Publican, Applicant.-40 acres, being parts
of Sections 121 and 124 on the plan of the said
District. Bounded-North-east by the Main Trunk
Line of Road, intersecting the said sections; South
(2300 links) by a line dividing the same from other
part of said Section 124, drawn parallel to the divi-
sion line of said sections; Northward (3500 links)
by a public road meeting the said Main Trunk Line
