The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.
The population has been estimated by adding the excess of births over deaths since the 1st March, 1874, to the then census
population. It is impossible to estimate the increase from immigration.
The births were 29 more than in June.
The deaths were 4 more in number than the deaths in June.
Of the deaths, males contributed 69; females, 48: 44 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 37.61
per cent. of the whole number; 29 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
There were 8 deaths of persons of 65 years of age and over: 4 of these persons were males and 4 females: of these,
2 males aged 66 and 69, respectively, died at Auckland; 1 female of 66 at the Thames; 2 females of 93 and 75, at Nelson; and
2 males of 66 and 70, respectively, at Christchurch; 1 female, aged 70, died at Wellington.
THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and upwards, and
the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs named, and that were registered, during the Month of
July, 1876.
