THE following Notice to Mariners, received from
the Marine Board of New South Wales, is pub-
lished for general information.

NOTICE TO MARINERS, FISHING PARTIES, AND
OTHERS.

SUB-MARINE CABLES, BOTANY BAY AND PORT
JACKSON.
MASTERS of vessels, fishing parties, and others
are hereby cautioned against anchoring, creeping,
dredging, or fishing near the position of the Sub-
Marine Cable connecting Botany Bay with New

Zealand, and also of that between Dawes' Point and
Blue's Point in Port Jackson.
If either of the said cables are injured through
wilful inattention to this notice, the person thus
offending will be liable to the penalties imposed by
the Act 20 Vict. No. 41.

Appointment of Commissioner of Crown Lands.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
appoint, under "The Commissioners of Crown
Lands Act, 1869,"

JOHN MARSHMAN, Esq.,
to be Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Pro-
vince of Canterbury.
This appointment takes effect on and from the
20th of July, 1876.

Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.

NOTICE is hereby given, that Charles White,
Patents Agent, and Agent for the Registration
of Trade Marks, of Wellington, has applied, on behalf
of VICTOR NISSEN, of Dunedin, in the Province of
Otago, to register, under "The Trade Marks Act,
1866," the Trade Mark of which the following is a
description, viz.,-
The Trade Mark consists of a paper label, about
4 in. wide by 5 in. long, on which is a picture repre-
senting Alpine scenery, with the words "Alpine
Bitters" printed in gilt letters over and above the en-
graving, underneath which are the following words :-
"The Popular American Tonic Anti-Dyspeptic Elixir,
prepared from Roots and Herbs by Otto Russell &
Co., New York," the whole surrounded by a frame-
work of green and gilt bordering. The paper label
so described will be affixed to the bottle containing
the article hereinafter mentioned. On an outside
wrapper, within which the bottle is enclosed, will
appear a paper label about 5 in. long by 3 in.
wide, with a rounded top containing a tracing
of the Alpine mountains surrounded by the insignia
of Otto Russell & Co., and the words "Alpine
Bitters." The words "Alpine Bitters, the Popular
American Tonic and Anti-Dyspeptic Elixir," forming
a half-circle round the seal. Beneath this are the
words, in large type, "Alpine Bitters," and in smaller
type the words, "A Safe and Reliable Remedy for
Dyspepsia, Liver Complaints, and Constitutional De-
bility; an Infallible Cure for Fever, and Ague, and
other Periodic Disorders; valuable in DiarrhΕ“a, Colic,
Cramps, and Choleric Maladies, and a superior Anti-
Bilious and Tonic Medicine for general family use."
The whole surrounded by red and blue lines at the
sides, meeting at the top in the form of an arch. On
the bottles containing the article will appear, in
raised letters, the words, "Otto Russell & Co."
on one side, and "Alpine Bitters" on the other side.
The insignia of Otto Russell & Co, before men-
tioned, will appear as a seal on the cork of the
bottles.
Nature of Article to which it is intended such Trade
Mark shall apply.
A medicinal compound, known as Alpine Bitters.
