Armed Constabulary; and all such Regulations shall
have the same force as though they formed a part of
the now reciting Act: And whereas it is expedient
to revoke certain of the existing Regulations, bearing
date the twenty-first day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy, and to make others in
lieu of those so revoked:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers and authority vested in me by the hereinbe-
fore in part recited Act, do hereby revoke such of
the Regulations dated the twenty-first day of Feb-
ruary, one thousand eight hundred and seventy, as
are numbered seventy-three, seventy-four, seventy-
five, seventy-six, and two hundred and eighty-two,
and in lieu thereof do hereby make the Regulations
set forth in the Schedule hereto, and do direct that
they shall be read with and as part of the existing
Regulations.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and
Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at
the Government House, at Wellington,
this twentieth day of July, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-six.

SCHEDULE.

  1. The uniform of constables is to consist of
    blue cloth cap with peak and band of black braid,
    1-inch wide, blue tweed patrol jacket with the A.C.
    metal buttons, blue tweed trousers, strong laced-up
    watertight boots, and brown leather gaiters, great
    coat, waterproof sheet.

  2. Mounted constables will wear the same uni-
    form in every respect as the foot, with the exception
    that of a cavalry cloak instead of the great coat, and
    in addition to the above each mounted man is to have
    one pair of Bedford-cord breeches and hunting spurs;
    also, to supply himself with the cleaning gear neces-
    sary for his horse and saddlery.

  3. The uniform of non-commissioned officers,
    whether mounted or foot, is to be precisely the same
    as that of the constables, with the addition of
    chevrons on the right arm, according to the grade
    of the wearer; in the case of sergeants-major, sur-
    mounted by a crown.

  4. Officers of all ranks are to be similarly dressed;
    their uniform will be as follows:--Blue cloth forage
    cap with staff peak, and silver oak leaf band 14-inch
    wide, with silver button and tracing lace on top;
    blue cloth patrol jacket with standing collar braided
    with hussar braid and silver shoulder cords; blue
    cloth single-breasted waistcoat hooking to the throat,
    with silver beading and silver lace round edges and
    pockets; blue cloth trousers with black oak leaf mo-
    hair braid down the side 14-inch wide.

PAY.
Officers.
282. Inspectors, £400 per annum; ditto, 2nd class,
£350 per annum; sub-inspectors, 1st class, £250 per
annum; ditto, 2nd class, £200 per annum.

Non-Commissioned Officers and Constables.
Mounted. - Sergeants-major, 9s. per diem; ser-
geants, 1st class, 8s. 6d. per diem; ditto, 2nd class,
7s. 6d. per diem; constables, 6s. 6d. per diem.
Foot. - Sergeants-major, 9s. per diem; sergeants,
1st class, 8s. per diem; ditto, 2nd class, 7s; con-
stables, 6s. per diem.
Without clothing allowance.

Appointing place for holding Licensing Courts.

NORMANBY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of all powers and
authorities enabling me in this behalf, I, George
Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby
appoint that sittings of the Licensing Court for the
Licensing Districts of Malvern, East Malvern, South
Malvern, Upper Waimakariri, Lake Coleridge, and
Rakaia, shall, until otherwise ordered, be held at the
Resident Magistrate's Court House, at Malvern.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this twenty-first day of July,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
six.

Downing Street, 2nd May, 1876.

SIR, - I have the honor to transmit to you, for your
information, and for publication in the colony under
your Government, a copy of an Order of the Queen
in Council, dated the 17th March, 1875, extending
to Swedish vessels the advantages held out by "The
Merchant Shipping Act, 1862," to ships of foreign
countries adopting the rules for the measurement of
tonnage which obtain in this country.

THE QUEEN'S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY IN
COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by "The Merchant Shipping Act Amend-
ment Act, 1862," it is enacted, that whenever it is
made to appear to Her Majesty that the rules con-
cerning the measurement of tonnage of merchant
ships for the time being in force under the principal
Act have been adopted by the Government of any
foreign country and are in force in that country, it
shall be lawful for Her Majesty, by Order in Council,
to direct that the ships of such foreign country shall
be deemed to be of the tonnage denoted in their
certificates of registry or other national papers, and
thereupon it shall no longer be necessary for such
