The Town of Akaroa to be a Borough under "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1867."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the tenth section of "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1867," (herein-
after called "the said Act,") provision is made,
subject to certain conditions therein referred to, for
constituting, by Proclamations, boroughs in districts
not comprised within the limits of any of the cities,
towns, or places therein particularly mentioned: And
whereas by the twenty-fifth section of "The Municipal
Corporations Act Amendment Act, 1875," certain
modifications of the conditions imposed by the tenth
section of the said Act are made in the case of the
Town of Akaroa, in the Province of Canterbury:
And whereas the modified conditions have been
complied with:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers vested
in me by the said Acts, do hereby constitute and
proclaim the district defined in the Schedule hereto,
and comprising the Town of Akaroa, to be a borough
under "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867," as
aforesaid: And in further pursuance of the said
powers vested in me, I do hereby proclaim that the
name of the said borough shall be "Akaroa."

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's

Colony of New Zealand and its Depend-
encies, and Vice-Admiral of the same;
and issued under the Seal of the said
Colony, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this twenty-second day of
July, in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-six.

SCHEDULE.
Boundaries as stated in Petition.
ALL that district or block of land situated and
bounded as follows, that is to say, situated on the
east side of the Harbour of Akaroa, bounded by a
line commencing at a point where the northern
branch of the Mill Stream falls into the sea; con-
tinued easterly along the northern branch of the said
stream to the first fork; thence in a straight line
southerly to the trigonometrical pole marked "A"
on the hill; thence in the same direction to the point
where the Balqueri Road meets the eastern boundary
of Watson Street; thence along the eastern side of
the said street to where it crosses the eastern boun-
dary of Le Lievre's land; thence southerly along the
said eastern boundary and along the boundary of
Malmanche's land to the Rue Charbonnier; thence
across the Rue Charbonnier and onwards southerly
in the same direct line as the eastern boundary of
Malmanche's land to Aylmer Street; thence westerly
along the southern side of that street to its junction
with South Street; thence along the eastern side of
the last-named street till it meets a line in con-
tinuation of the north-east side of the Abattoir
Reserve; thence north-westerly along the said line
and the north-eastern boundary of the Abattoir
Reserve to low watermark; thence along low water-
mark to the commencing point; which said boundary
line of the said town is marked in a red dotted line
on the map of the Town and Suburbs of Akaroa,
signed by the Chief Surveyor, and marked "A3,"
and deposited in the Land Office at Christchurch, in
the Province of Canterbury.

ERRATA. In the New Zealand Gazette, of 1876, No. 30, page 367, in the Proclamation setting apart lands in Westland for
settlement, in the 9th line of the description of the land, for "exclusive," read "inclusive." In the list of Officiating
Ministers, published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 2, 13th January, 1876, for "The Very Reverend D. McDonald," read
"The Very Reverend Jas. McDonald"; and in the same, for "The Reverend Joseph Grey," read "The Reverend Joseph H.
Gray."
