after called "the said Act,") it is enacted that the
Superintendent may from time to time make such
arrangements as he may think fit for the payment of
any of the debentures authorized to be issued under
the sixth section of the said Act, or for the payment
of any of the coupons at any office or bank in
Christchurch or elsewhere, as the Superintendent
may, on the recommendation of the Provincial Coun-
cil of Canterbury, think fit: And whereas by the
twenty-seventh section of "The Abolition of Pro-
vinces Act, 1875," it is enacted that, until the day
next after the last day of the first session of the then
next or sixth Parliament of New Zealand all powers,
duties, and functions which, immediately before the
passing of the now reciting Act, were under or by
virtue of any law vested in or to be exercised or per-
formed by the Superintendent of any province on the
recommendation or resolution of the Provincial Coun-
cil of such province under any law or Ordinance for
the time being in force, shall be exercised by the
Superintendent with the consent of the Governor in
Council: And whereas the Superintendent of the
Province of Canterbury has made an arrangement
that the principal and interest moneys to become due
and accrue upon the said debentures shall be payable
and be paid at the Bank of New Zealand, London:
And whereas it is necessary that the consent of the
Governor in Council should be given in order to
enable such arrangement to be carried out:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exer-
cise of the power and authority vested in him by the
above-recited section of "The Abolition of Provinces
Act, 1875," and by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth
hereby consent to the said arrangement as to the
payment of the principal and interest moneys upon
the said Lyttelton Harbour Works Loan Deben-
tures.

Notice of intention to Purchase Native Lands in
the Province of Auckland.
(L.S.) NORMANBY, Governor.
WHEREAS by "The Immigration and Public
Works Act Amendment Act, 1871," the
Governor is, among other things, empowered to
enter into arrangements for the acquisition of par-
ticular portions of land in the North Island for the
purpose of mining for gold, for the establishment of
special settlements, or for the purpose of railway
construction:
And by the said Act it is also provided that it
shall be lawful for the Governor, whenever he shall
have determined to enter into negotiations for the
purchase of such land, to insert a notice in the New
Zealand Gazette that it is his intention to enter into
such negotiations, and after such notice is inserted
it shall not be lawful for any one to purchase or
acquire from the Native owners any right, title, or
interest, or contract for the purchase or acquisition
from the Native owners of any right, title, or in-
terest, in the lands specified in such notice, unless
the notice be cancelled by the Governor: Provided
that no such notice shall have longer operation than
for the period of two years:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of
the hereinbefore in part recited Act, and in exercise
of the powers thereby vested in me, do hereby give
notice that it is my intention forthwith to enter into
negotiations for the purchase from the Native owners
of the block or parcel of land situate in the Province
of Auckland, and described in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
WAIHORA.
ALL that block or parcel of land in the Poverty Bay
District, Province of Auckland, containing sixteen
thousand four hundred and seventy-four (16474)
acres, or thereabouts. Bounded by Kauakauaia
Stream from its mouth to its source at Te Awhenga,
thence by the boundary of Waingaromia to Toromiro,
thence by a line to the sources of the Matai Stream,
thence descending the same to its junction with
Motumuka, thence ascending same to Hinakiwawahia
Stream, and to source of same to Te Reinga-o-te-
Mutunga, thence to Te Ngau-o-te-Kaka, thence to
Whakapapa, thence to Kokakonui, thence by bound-
ary of Mangaoae Block to Mahuruhuru, thence to
Pohue, and by course of Waihora River to first point.
MATATUOTONGO.
All that block or parcel of land in the Poverty Bay
District, Province of Auckland, containing one thou-
sand three hundred and eighty-five (1385) acres or
thereabouts. Bounded on the North by Ngata-
wakawaka Block; on the East by Te Marunga Block;
on the South by Puremungahua Block; on the West
by Parariki Block.
NGATAWAKAWAKA.
All that block or parcel of land in the Poverty Bay
District, Province of Auckland, containing one thou-
sand six hundred and fifty-seven (1657) acres or
thereabouts. Bounded by a line from Te Rimututahi
that falls into Mangapiko Stream, thence by course
of same stream to Akahiaiti, thence the boundary
runs to Te Akahiarahi, thence to Tangihanga, thence
to Te Patu-a-Houtaketake, thence to Ngapunarua,
thence to Te Rimututahi.
PUREMUNGAHUA.
All that block or parcel of land in the Poverty Bay
District, Province of Auckland, containing two thou-
sand eight hundred and ninety (2890) acres or
thereabouts. Bounded on the East by a portion of
Mr. Robson's run; on the North by a block sold
to Government known as Matatuotonga; on the
West by the block sold to Government known as
Paraheka; on the South by the block sold to Govern-
ment known as Arakihi.
WAIMATA. WEST.
All that block or parcel of land in the Poverty Bay
District, Province of Auckland, containing ten thou-
sand five hundred and sixty-nine (10569) acres or
thereabouts, bounded as follows:—From the point
where the boundary of the Whataupoko cuts
Waimata River to Kopua-a-puaki, to Omarutipi, to
Te Patu Koura, to Puke Ruia, thence falling into
the Mangataikehu Stream, and by course of same to
its junction with Tapuitao Stream, thence ascend-
ing same to Te Rapa Puketea, to Hakanui, to Puke
Mohi, to Makiri, to Te Ngau-o-te-kaka, to Ngatahore
to Toromiro, falling into Mangahoukia, and by course
of same to its junction with Waimata River, thence
by course of Waimata to the first point.
TAUWHAREPARAE.
All that block or parcel of land in the Poverty Bay
District, Province of Auckland, containing seventy-
four thousand one hundred and ninety (74190) acres
or thereabouts, and bounded as follows:—Commenc-
ing at the mouth of the Mangaroa Stream, thence by
course of same to its source, thence to Whetutangahia,
thence to Kawe-o-te-Paraca, thence to Whakaurangi,
