THE following Notice to Mariners, received from
the Chief Harbour Master, Westland, is pub-
lished for general information.

A NEW Channel having opened through the South
Spit at this port, leading beacons have been placed
at the foot of Arney Street. These beacons lead
through the New Channel until near the eastern end,
when they should be opened to their own breadth to
the N.E. until the South Spit end is passed, then haul
up the river as usual. Strangers are cautioned not
to use the South Channel as long as the North
