The deaths in December were 124, against 114 in November. Zymotic diseases caused 29 deaths in December, against 25 in
November. Of those diseases in December, typhoid fever caused 9 deaths (5 of which occurred in Christchurch), and dysentery
and diarrhea 9 deaths.
The number of deaths from diseases of the respiratory organs was 18 in December, against 19 in November.
The violent deaths were 6 in December; of which two were from injuries received in birth.
In December, 1874, the deaths for the 7 boroughs amounted to 130. There were then 40 deaths from zymotic diseases
against 29 in December, 1875. The deaths from measles and diarrhea largely augmented the number of deaths from zymotic
diseases in December, 1874.
