N.B.—Although the Auckland and Hokitika Hospitals are situated outside the boundaries of the respective boroughs, yet
the deaths in them have, for the sake of uniformity, been included in this Report.
The population has been estimated by adding the excess of births over deaths since the 1st March, 1874, to the then census
population. It is impossible to estimate the increase from immigration.
The births were 4 more than in August.
The deaths were 2 fewer in number than the deaths in August.
Of the deaths, males contributed 81; females, 45: 40 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 31·75
per cent. of the whole number; 27 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
There were 15 deaths of persons of 65 years of age and over, namely, 9 males and 6 females. The oldest male was 78; he
died at Wellington. The oldest female was 80; she died at Dunedin.
THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and upwards, and
the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs named, and that were registered, during the Month of
September, 1875.
