THE following notification received from the
Government of India, in reference to the pur-
chase of remounts for the Bengal Army, is published
for general information.

SIR,-I am desired by the Right Honorable the
Governor-General of India in Council to forward,
for general information, the accompanying notice
regarding the purchase of remounts required for the
Bengal Army, and to request that, under the orders
of His Excellency the Governor, it may be published
in the leading journals, and circulated as extensively
as possible.

NOTICE.

IT is hereby notified, with reference to the advertise-
ment of the 8th June, 1874, that the Government of
India are prepared to purchase about 1,000 horses,
suitable for army purposes, during the year 1875-76.
The purchases will be made by Remount Agents
or Committees, as in previous years, at the stations
named in the margin.*
The purchases will, except under any special cir-
cumstances, be made only between the 1st October
and 1st April.
The requirements of 1876-77 will be 600 horses,
more or less.
Horses and mares of all breeds will be received,
and they must be within the prescribed age-four to
seven years.
The average price for a remount has been fixed at
Rupees 550. Every horse presented for purchase
will be valued separately, and higher or lower prices
may be given, provided that the average of the pur-
chases does not exceed that limit.
