for general information.

ALTERATIONS AT THE ENTRANCE TO PORT MACQUARIE.

18th March, 1875.
MASTERS of vessels trading to Port Macquarie are
hereby informed that the late floods have materially
altered the channel. The course in at the present
time is to keep close to the sunken rock, with the
crosses on the western shore, a little open to the
northward of the round-headed beacon abreast of
the Asylum. The leading marks for the old channel
have been removed.

GLENELG JETTY LIGHT, ST. VINCENT'S GULF.

Port Adelaide, 10th March, 1875.
IT is hereby notified, that the red light on Glenelg
Jetty has been removed seventy-five (75) feet north
of its former position, and is now exhibited from a
tower having the focal plane of the light at an eleva-
tion of forty (40) feet from ordinary high water level.
Being on the catadioptric principle, it is consider-
ably improved in power, and should be seen from
seaward from the deck of a ship at a distance of eight
(8) miles in clear weather.

REEF OFF LIBAN, OR BABI, FLORES SEA.
CAPTAIN PARK, of the Mail Steamer "Normanby,"
reports having struck upon a reef extending some
three-quarters of a mile from the southern-end of
Liban, or Babi. The position of the vessel when
aground was as follows:-
Detached rock off south end of island N. 55° E.
Western point of island just open of
S.W. point ... N. 7° W.
This reef, which is not laid down on the chart, was
steep to, having a depth of 20 fathoms within half a
cable. It was covered at low water, and appeared
to extend also for some distance from the western
side of the island.
A break was also observed on what appeared to
be a sunken rock, lying about three miles to the
eastward of the southern point of the island.

BURNETT RIVER.
MASTERS of vessels intending to enter the Burnett
River, are cautioned that the old channel across the
Bar has been blocked up by the recent floods. Buoys
are being laid down to point out the position of the
new channel, the depth of the water in which will be
shown from the flagstaff by the usual signals.

GOLDWIN ROBERTS BRETON, Esq.,
has been appointed Manager of the Naval Training
School established at Kohimarama, in the Province
of Auckland.
This appointment will date from the 15th October
last.
