                    *Assumption of the Government of New Zealand by the Marquis of Normanby.*

                                                                        ### **A PROCLAMATION.**

W
HEREAS Her Majesty has been graciously pleased, by Letters Patent under the
Great Seal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, bearing date at
Balmoral, the sixth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four,
to constitute and appoint me, the Most Honorable George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Earl of Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron Mulgrave
of Mulgrave, all in the County of York, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom; and
Baron Mulgrave of New Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the Peerage of Ireland;
a Member of Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Council; Knight Commander of
the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Administrator of
the Government over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand :

Now I, the Administrator aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that I have
this day taken the prescribed oaths before His Honor Sir George Alfred Arney, Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court of the said Colony, and that I have assumed the said
office of Administrator of the Government in and over the Colony of New Zealand
under and by virtue of Her Majesty's said Commission.

                                    Given under the hand of His Excellency the Most Honorable **GEORGE AUGUSTUS CONSTANTINE**,
                                    Marquis of Normanby, Earl of Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron Mulgrave of
                                    Mulgrave, all in the County of York, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom; and
                                    Baron Mulgrave of New Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the Peerage of Ireland;
                                    a Member of Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Council; Knight Commander of
                                    the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Administrator
                                    of the Government in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
                                    Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government
                                    House at Auckland, this Third day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand
                                    eight hundred and seventy-four.
