Volunteer Corps disbanded.

Colonial Defence Office,
Wellington, 8th September, 1874.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
disband the under-mentioned Corps, at their
own request, viz.,-

Drury Light Horse Volunteers, and
Karori Rifle Volunteers.

The under-mentioned gentlemen have therefore
ceased to hold the rank of officers in the Volunteer
Force; their commissions having, under the provisions
of "The Volunteer Act, 1865," lapsed:-

Captain James Baird Hay (New Zealand Militia),
late Captain, Drury Light Horse Volunteers;
Captain Walter W. Johnston (New Zealand
Militia), late Captain, Karori Rifle Volun-
teers;
Henry Cook, Esq., late Lieutenant, Karori Rifle
Volunteers;
George Godkin, Esq., late Sub-Lieutenant,
Drury Light Horse Volunteers.

N.B.β€”The Auckland and Hokitika Hospitals are outside the boundaries of the respective boroughs.
The persons on board ships are not included in the numbers of the population.
The births were 316 in August, against 269 in July, while the deaths were 4 more in number than the deaths in July.
Of the deaths, males contributed 53; females, 55: 53 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 49-07 of the
whole number; 25 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
The deaths of children under 5 years of age exceeded those in July by 7.
Three females died aged respectively 65, 68, and 71 years; 6 males died between the ages of 65 and upwards, the oldest
being 79.
Three of the above 9 deaths occurred in Wellington, and 3 in Dunedin.
