Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Hokitika, during the Month of July, 1874.

N.B.—The Auckland and Hokitika Hospitals are outside the boundaries of the respective boroughs.
The numbers of the population are the correct numbers from the census abstracts. The persons on board ships are not
included.

The births were 269 in July, as against 246 in June.
The deaths were 6 in number fewer than in June.
Of the deaths, males contributed 58; females, 46: 46 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 44-23 of the
whole number; 29 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
The deaths of children under 5 years of age exceeded those in June by 4.
One female of 75 years of age died in Wellington.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and upwards, and
the proportions per cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs named, and that were registered, during the month of
July, 1874.
