THE following Tables, showing the Numbers of the Population (exclusive of Aboriginal Natives)
and Dwellings in the Provinces of Nelson and Otago, as ascertained by a Census taken for the night of
the 1st March, 1874, are published for general information. The figures, it is to be understood, are subject
to subsequent revision, but it is not probable that this will lead to any alteration of practical importance.

PROVINCE OF OTAGO. The number on shipboard, included in the respective Electoral Districts on the Census night, was
1,559, of which number 1,352 were on board 37 vessels at Port Chalmers, and 43 on board the Government p.s. "Luna," at
anchor in North Port, Chalkey or Dark Cloud Inlet.
