IT is hereby notified, that the Governor has
delegated to His Honor the Superintendent of
the Province of Wellington His Excellency's powers
under "The Prisoners Removal Act, 1865."

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
delegate, under "The Waste Lands Act, 1858,"
to His Honor the Superintendent of the Province of
Wellington, the powers vested in the Governor by
section 14 of the said Act, subject to be rescinded
as in the said Act provided.

SIR,—I have the satisfaction of informing you that
the Queen has been pleased to mark her sense of the
success and ability with which you have administered
the Government of New Zealand, by appointing you,
upon my recommendation, to the Government of
Victoria, which is about to become vacant by the
retirement of Viscount Canterbury on the expiration
of his term of office.
Her Majesty has also been pleased to approve of
the appointment of the Right Honorable James
Fergusson, the Governor of South Australia, to be
your successor in the Government of New Zealand.
Lord Canterbury has expressed a wish to leave
Melbourne on the 28th February, and I request you
to make such arrangements as will enable you to
enter upon the Government of Victoria as soon after
that date as possible.

SIR,—I have the honor to inform you that I have
had great satisfaction in submitting to the Queen
the name of Mr. Francis Dillon Bell, Speaker of the
House of Representatives of New Zealand, for the
honor of Knighthood, and that Her Majesty has
been graciously pleased to sanction the grant of that
dignity to Mr. Bell.
The Patent of Knighthood will proceed through
the Home Office as soon as it shall be intimated by
Mr. Bell, through you, by whom the necessary
charges will be paid. They will amount to about
£115.

Members of Fox Ministry to retain title of Honorable
in the Colony.

Downing Street, 9th December, 1872.
SIR,—I have received your Despatch No. 80, of the
21st September last, recommending that Messrs.
William Fox, Julius Vogel, C.M.G., Donald McLean,
C.M.G., and William Gisborne, late Members of
your Ministry, should be allowed to retain the title
of Honorable.
In reply, I have to request that you will inform
those gentlemen that Her Majesty has been graciously
pleased to approve of their retaining the title of
"Honorable" within the Colony of New Zealand.
I am glad to avail myself of this opportunity of
recording my appreciation of the distinguished
services rendered by Mr. Fox, during the long period
over which his connection with the public affairs of
New Zealand has extended.

Petition for a Municipality at Westport.

IN conformity with the provisions of "The Muni-
cipal Corporations Act, 1867," the following
Petition from inhabitant householders of Westport,
for the Town of Westport to be constituted a
borough, and Letter of Assent from His Honor the
Superintendent of Nelson, are published for general
information; and it is hereby notified that His Excel-
lency the Governor will consider the Petition on the
15th day of April next.

tions Act, 1867," and in the matter of
the Inhabitants of the Town of Westport,
in the Province of Nelson, on the West
Coast of the Colony of New Zealand.
To His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished
Order of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and
over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand
and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the
same.
The Humble Petition of the undersigned Inhabitant
Householders of the Town of Westport, in
the Province of Nelson, on the West Coast
of the Colony of New Zealand :
SHOWETH,—

That the Town of Westport contains a popula-
tion of inhabitant householders of not less than two
hundred and fifty. -
That the said Town of Westport lies wholly
within one and the same Province, and is neither
wholly or in part comprised within the limits of any
other city, town, or place mentioned in the first
column of the First Schedule to the said Act, or of
any city, town, or place incorporated, or reputed to
be incorporated, under the provisions of any other
Act.
