Officer of Police, apply only to felonies and the fol-
lowing misdemeanours :-
Conspiring to charge any person with any
felony, or to indict any person of any felony.
Conspiring to commit any felony.
Neglect and breach of duty as a Peace Officer.
Misdemeanours under "The Larceny Act, 1867."
Misdemeanours under "The Offences against
the Person Act, 1867."
Misdemeanours under "The Malicious Injuries
to Property Act, 1867."
Misdemeanours under "The Forgery Act, 1867."
Misdemeanours under "The Coinage Act, 1867."
And all such misdemeanours, other than the above,
as are mentioned in the 61st section of "The Justices
of the Peace Act, 1866."
13. Costs and expenses in cases conducted by or
on behalf of Private Prosecutors will be taxed and
allowed on the same scale as if conducted by the
Crown Solicitor or Crown Prosecutor.
14. In cases to which the said Regulations are
declared not to apply, the committing Justices should
be careful to inform prosecutors to that effect.
15. In cases to which the regulations do apply, a
strict compliance with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of these
Regulations is enjoined on all Justices of the Peace.
16. If the Attorney-General, or Crown Solicitor,
or Crown Prosecutor, is of opinion that any pro-
secution instituted by a private prosecutor, whether
for felony or misdemeanour, and to which the said
Regulations would otherwise apply, is such that it
ought not to be conducted by the Crown Solicitor
or Crown Prosecutor, notice thereof shall, as soon
as possible, be given to the private prosecutor; and
if such notice shall be given to such private prosecutor
not later than seven days in country cases, and not
later than three days in town cases, before the first
day of the sittings at which the trial is to be had;
or if the committal shall have taken place within
the said periods, then, if such notice be given with
all reasonable despatch, in all such cases the Crown
Solicitor or Crown Prosecutor shall not conduct
the prosecution under the said Regulations, and the
said Regulations shall not be deemed to apply to such
case.
17. By a "Country case" is meant one in which the
committing Justices shall have sat at a distance of
more than ten miles from the place at which the trial
is to be had. Other cases are included in the term
"Town cases."

SCALE OF COSTS.

COSTS to Crown Solicitors and Crown Prosecutors, in
Criminal Prosecutions, will be allowed as follows:-

In each separate indictment the Solicitor's fee will
be allowed; but where the Crown Solicitor or Pro-
secutor has not retained Counsel, he will not be
allowed Counsel's fee for himself in cases which for
any reason do not proceed to trial.

Allowances to Prosecutors and Witnesses in Criminal
Proceedings.
Persons residing within the town or city in which £ s. d.
the Court is held, or within three miles thereof,

Professional men, when their evidence as experts is

Persons residing beyond three miles of the town or
city in which the Court is held, for every day's

Witnesses residing beyond three miles from the town
or city in which the Court is held will also be
allowed their coach, railway, or steamboat fares;
and where there is no public conveyance, will be
allowed a mileage rate not exceeding ninepence per
mile, one way. They will also be allowed three
shillings, in addition, for each night they are
necessarily detained from their own homes, except
when travelling by sea.
Salaried officers of the General or Provincial Govern-
ment will not be paid for their time, but only their
actual and necessary expenses.

CUSTOMS.-In exercise of the powers in me for
this purpose vested by "The Customs Regula-
tion Act Amendment Act, 1868," I, the Minister for
the time being acting for the Commissioner of Cus-
toms, do hereby approve and appoint the under-
mentioned Warehouse, viz. :-

Port of Greymouth.
Part of a wood and iron building situate in Mackay
Street, and known as
RUSSELL'S BOND,
to be a Warehouse for the reception of Goods under
Bond.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
sixteenth day of January, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-three.

Tenders will be received by the undersigned up
to noon on Monday, the 10th of February next.
The lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted.
