persons whose descriptions are given below, any
one who can give any information respecting them is

GEORGE WILLIAM BREWER, native of London,
35 years of age, middle height, dark curly hair, brown
eyes, teeth rather prominent. Left Wangaratta,
Victoria, in 1864, for the New Zealand Gold Fields.

JOHN MACDONALD, native of Scotland, last heard
of at Shortland, Thames Gold Fields, about two years
ago, when he was mining with a cousin, named
Donald McLean. Had a brother named Angus
Macdonald, mate of a steamer, who was accidentally
drowned on a voyage between New Zealand and
Australia.

Member of House of Representatives elected.

THE Clerk of the Writs has received a Return to
the Writ issued by him on the 20th day of
June, 1873, for the Election of a Member to serve in
the House of Representatives of New Zealand for
the Electoral District hereinafter specified; and by
the indorsement on such Writ it appears that the
under-mentioned gentleman has been duly elected
Member for such District, viz. :-

PUBLISHED in pursuance of "The Canterbury
Rivers Act, 1870."

PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Canterbury Rivers Act, 1870,"
it is enacted that the Provincial Council may, by
Resolution, from time to time decide that any part or

parts of the Province shall be constituted a district
for the purposes of the said Act; and that such
Resolution shall describe the limits of such district,
and designate the name by which such district shall
be known, and mention the number of Conservators,
being not less than three or more than five, of
which the Board of the district shall be constituted:
And it is further enacted that as soon as the full
number of Members of a Board has been filled up as
provided by the said Act, the Superintendent shall
by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette and the
Gazette of the Province, declare the Board to be
duly constituted: And whereas by a Resolution
passed by the Provincial Council on the seventh day
of May, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
three, it was decided that a part of the Province as
therein described should be constituted a district for
the purposes of the said Act, under the name of
"The Mandeville and Rangiora Drainage District,"
and that the Board of Conservators for the said
district should consist of five members: And whereas
the full number of the members of the Board has
been filled up as provided by the said Act:
Now therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superin-
tendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance
of the powers so vested in me as aforesaid, do hereby
declare the Board of Conservators for the Mandeville
and Rangiora Drainage District to be duly con-
stituted.

Given under my hand at Christchurch, this
tenth day of July, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-three.

LAND TRANSFER ACT NOTICES.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the several parcels
of land hereinafter described will be brought
under the provisions of "The Land Transfer Act,
1870," unless caveat in the meantime be lodged for-
bidding the same.

All that parcel of land situate at Okiwa, or the
Grove, in the District of Queen Charlotte Sound,
in the Province of Marlborough, containing 78
acres, more or less, being allotment numbered 1 on
the subdivision of part of a block of land containing
1,100 acres granted to one Joseph Toms, by grant
dated the 5th day of August, 1852. Bounded-
towards the South by a line bearing 90° 0' magnetic,
commencing at a public road and extending eastward
for 3560 links; towards the East, 4300 links, by other
part of said block of land to a public road; thence
towards the North and West by the said public road
to the starting point.-E. T. Conolly, Solicitor,
Picton, for JAMES KILGOUR, of Shortland, in
the Province of Auckland, M.D., the Applicant.

All that parcel of land situate at Okiwa, or the
Grove, in the District of Queen Charlotte Sound,
in the Province of Marlborough, containing 163
acres and 1 rood, more or less, being allotment
numbered 2 on the subdivision of part of a block of
land containing 1,100 acres granted to one Joseph
Toms, by grant dated the 5th day of August, 1852,
commencing at high watermark at the south-east
corner of allotment numbered 3 on the said sub-
division; thence by a right line bearing 88° 0'
magnetic to the south-west corner of said allotment
numbered 3; thence by a line bearing 178° 0' mag-
netic for 4,500 links; thence by a line bearing 196°
45' magnetic for 7,100 links; thence by a line bearing
90° 0' magnetic for 1,400 links to a public road;
thence by that public road to a portion of the said
block reserved for educational purposes, and from
that reserve by a line running in a northerly direction
to high watermark, Queen Charlotte Sound, and
