Assumption of the Government of New Zealand by
Sir James Fergusson, Baronet.

JAMES FERGUSSON, Governor.
(L.S.) A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS Her Majesty has been graciously
pleased by Letters-Patent under the Great Seal
of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland,
bearing date at Westminster, the eighteenth day of
February, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
three, to constitute and appoint me, the Right Hon-
orable Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Council, to be
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the
Colony of New Zealand: Now, I, the Governor and
Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, do hereby proclaim
and declare that I have this day taken the prescribed
oaths before His Honor Sir George Alfred Arney,
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the said
Colony, and that I have assumed the said office of
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the
Colony of New Zealand, under and by virtue of Her
Majesty's said Commission.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Right Honorable Sir James Fergusson,
Baronet, a Member of Her Majesty's
Most Honorable Privy Council, Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the
same; and issued under the Seal of the
said Colony, at Wellington, this four-
teenth day of June, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-three.

Levee at Government House.

Private Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 14th June, 1873.
HIS Excellency the Governor will hold a Levee
at Government House on Monday, the sixteenth
instant, at twelve noon. Gentlemen attending the
Levee will wear official dress, uniform, or evening
costume, and are requested to provide themselves
with two cards with their names legibly written
thereon, one card to be left on the table at the
entrance door, and the other to be given to the
Private Secretary.
