ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-eighth day of August, 1872.
Present :
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS it is by "The New Zealand Native
Reserves Act, 1856,"
enacted that the Com-
missioners under the said Act may exchange, abso-
lutely sell, or otherwise dispose of any land with a
view to the benefit of the aboriginal inhabitants for
whom such land has been set apart: And whereas by
"The Native Reserves Act, 1862," it is enacted that
where under the provisions of the said "The New
Zealand Native Reserves Act, 1856,"
any act is
required to be done by Commissioners, it shall be
sufficient if such act be done by the Governor with
the advice of his Executive Council: And whereas
it appears that the lands described in the Schedule
hereto attached have been set apart for the aboriginal
inhabitants, and that it is desirable, with a view to
their benefit, that they should be conveyed to them:
Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor, by
and with the consent of his Executive Council, and
in pursuance of the power and authority vested in
him by the said "The Native Reserves Act, 1862,"
doth hereby order that Crown Grants shall be issued
for the pieces or parcels of land which are described,
and to the parties mentioned in the Schedule here-
unto annexed.

SCHEDULE.

  1. The Papakowhai or Aotea Reserve, lying on the
    eastern side of Porirua Harbour, to be granted to
    Wiremu Parata and Ngahuka Tungia.
  2. The Kahotea Reserve, lying on the western side
    of Porirua Harbour, to be granted to Wiremu
    Parata.

ERRATA.—In Gazette No. 41, of 22nd August, in the Proclamation of the Picton District, under "The Diseased Cattle
Act, 1871,"
in the sixth line of the second paragraph, for "south of the River Wairau," read "north of the River
Wairau."

In Gazette, 1872, No. 41, page 662, for "John Ussill Cambridge, Esq.," read "John Uffill Cambridge, Esq."


The grants to be with restrictions on the power
to mortgage or sell absolutely, and on the power to
lease for more than twenty-one years without the
consent of the Governor previously obtained.

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME,
GREETING :
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled "The Regulation of
Elections Act, 1870,"
it is enacted that it shall be
lawful for the Governor, by Warrant under his hand,
from time to time to appoint Polling Places for
each Electoral District, within or within one mile
of the limits thereof, and to appoint any one of
such places to be the Principal Polling Place for
the District, and all or any of such Polling Places
from time to time to abolish, and to appoint other
Polling Places in lieu of those abolished, and that
every such Warrant shall be published in the New
Zealand Gazette: Provided always that no Polling
Place shall be appointed by the Governor under the
said Act unless he shall be first satisfied that the
place to be appointed is more convenient than any
other for at least twenty electors to record their
votes thereat: And whereas by the said Act it is
further enacted that every election of the Superin-
tendent or of a Member of the Provincial Council
of a Province shall be conducted in the manner pre-
scribed therein for the election of Members of the
House of Representatives, and that the Governor
shall have the same powers of appointing and alter-
ing Polling Places and Principal Polling Places for
Electoral Districts for the election of Superinten-
dents and Members of Provincial Councils as, under
the provisions thereinbefore contained, he has for
Electoral Districts for election of Members of the
House of Representatives :
