Now therefore, His Excellency Sir George Fer-
guson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of
the said Colony, in pursuance and exercise of the
power and authority for that purpose vested in him,
doth hereby order and direct that all the powers,
functions, duties, and authorities vested in or required
to be performed by the Governor, or the Governor
in Council, or the Colonial Secretary, by "The
Lunatics Act, 1868," within the Province of Auck-
land, shall be exercised by
JOSEPH MAY, Esq.,
the Deputy Superintendent of the said Province, but
only during the absence of the Superintendent of the
said Province therefrom, and during any vacancy in
the office of the Superintendent of the said Province
arising by death or resignation, and only so long as
the said Joseph May, Esq., shall hold the office of
Deputy Superintendent of the said Province.

Medal, is published for general information.

PROGRESS REPORT OF THE NEW ZEALAND WAR
MEDAL COMMISSIONERS.
To His Excellency Sir GEORGE FERGUSON BOWEN,

MAY IT PLEASE YOUR EXCELLENCY, -
In accordance with the instructions conveyed by
the Commission of the 1st July, 1871, I have now the
honor to forward, for your Excellency's consideration,
the enclosed Nominal Rolls A, B, and C, containing
the names of applicants for the New Zealand War
Medal, which have been referred to me, and on the
justice of which I have decided, up to present date,
and since the publication of my last Report dated
13th December, 1871.
In Roll A are included the names of officers and
men of the Colonial Forces who claim the Medal for
services rendered prior to the 31st December, 1866.
Roll B contains the names of those claiming the
Medal for services performed subsequent to the 31st
December, 1866.
Roll C contains the names of deceased officers and
men of the Colonial Forces, on whose behalf applica-
tion has been made for the Medal by their representa-
tives.
I therefore submit this as a Progress Report for
your Excellency's consideration.
