2
THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

G. F. BOWEN, Governor.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Definition of Districts Act,
1858," it is among other things enacted that
it shall be lawful for the Governor from time to time,
by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette, to
divide the Colony into Counties, Hundreds, Parishes,
or such other divisions as he may deem expedient,
which shall have such limits, and shall bear and be
known by such names or designations as in and by
the Proclamation constituting the same shall be
prescribed, and also in like manner from time to
time to alter and annul any such division, or the name
or designation thereof, whether made or given under
the authority of the said Act or prior to the passing
thereof:

And whereas by "The Gold Mining Districts Act,
1871," it is among other things enacted that the
several sections of the said Act in reference to
machine, business, and residence sites, numbered from
fifty-six to sixty-four, both inclusive, shall not apply
to the land comprised within the Towns of Shortland,
and Grahamstown, and Tararu, as defined in the
Fourth Schedule to the said Act: And whereas the
Schedule referred to directs that the said towns shall
have such limits as shall be prescribed by the Governor
in a Proclamation to be issued under "The
Definition of Districts Act, 1858," as therein
mentioned: And whereas it is expedient that the
limits of the said towns should be prescribed as
aforesaid, in the manner hereinafter mentioned:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance
and exercise of the power and authority vested in me
by the hereinbefore in part recited Acts, and of every
other power and authority enabling me in that behalf,
do hereby proclaim and declare that the respective
Towns of Shortland, Grahamstown, and Tararu shall
have the limits set forth and prescribed in the first
column of the Schedule hereto, and set opposite to
the names of each such town.

And in further pursuance and exercise of the
power and authority aforesaid, I do hereby proclaim
and declare that the said Towns of Shortland, Gra-
hamstown, and Tararu shall bear and be known by
the names or designations particularly mentioned in
the second column of the said Schedule: Provided
that this Proclamation shall not take effect until the
twenty-second day of January, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-two.
