HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
appoint
WILLIAM LAMBERT JACKSON, Esq., L.R.C.S.A.,
to be a Member of the Medical Board constituted
15th October, 1866, under "The Military Pensions
Act, 1866."

IN consequence of an increase in the rates to be
paid for the transit through Belgium of the Cor-
respondence between New Zealand and the United
Kingdom via Brindisi, the postage on Letters by
that route for the United Kingdom, and for places
in transit through the United Kingdom, will in future
be increased by 1d. per $\frac{1}{2}$-ounce.

The full postage to be charged on a Letter for the
United Kingdom via Brindisi will now therefore be
10d. per $\frac{1}{2}$-ounce.

On Book Packets, Pattern Parcels, and News-
papers, the rates of postage will remain the same
as heretofore.

ARRANGEMENTS have been made for an
exchange of direct Mails between Italy and
New Zealand via Suez, under which Correspondence
for Italy and the several States of the Continent
beyond Italy, may in future be forwarded from this
Colony in Mails made up for Brindisi.

The Correspondence intended to be forwarded in
the above Mails must be addressed "By direct Mail
to Brindisi," and will be charged with the following
rates of postage, which must be prepaid:---

CUSTOMS.-Whereas certain Buildings, situate
at Westport, and known as

POWELL'S BOND, and

THE COMMERCIAL BOND,

were some time since appointed as Warehouses for
the reception and security of goods entered to be
warehoused without payment of duty upon the first
entry thereof: And whereas it has been found
necessary to remove the said buildings: Now, in
exercise of the authority in me for this purpose
vested, I, the Commissioner of Customs, do by this
order under my hand revoke and annul the appoint-
ment of the buildings aforesaid, and do now hereby

approve and reappoint the said buildings according to
the under-mentioned description thereof, namely:-

Port of Westport.

A Building situate on the Government Reserve,
Kennedy Street, and known as

POWELL'S BOND,

and a Building situate on the Government Reserve,
Kennedy Street, and known as

THE COMMERCIAL BOND,

to be Warehouses for the reception of Goods under
Bond.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
fifteenth day of September, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-one.

1867," notice is hereby given that a transcript of
the By-laws for the Government of

"The Loyal Sons of Perseverance Lodge,
Riverton, of the Invercargill District, No.
5219, Manchester Unity, Independent Order
of Odd Fellows, Friendly Society,"

duly certified, has been lodged with the Registrar of
Friendly Societies, registered and recorded in his
Office under the provisions of "The Friendly Societies
Act, 1867."

WAIKATO RIVER.

Customs Department (Marine Branch),
Wellington, 9th September, 1871.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the Leading Beacons
for entering the Waikato River, as shown on
the Admiralty Chart, no longer exist; also, that the
Harbour and Pilot Establishments have been abolished
and the Signals discontinued; and as the channel
over the Bar is continually changing, Masters of
Vessels are cautioned not to enter the Waikato
without a thorough knowledge of the Bar, or of any
change that may have taken place.

GENERAL RULES OF THE COURT OF APPEAL OF
NEW ZEALAND.-27TH JULY, 1871.

BY virtue of the powers vested in us by "The
Court of Appeal Act, 1862," we, the Judges
of the Court of Appeal, do hereby order that the
following Rules for the Practice and Procedure of
the Court shall be in force on and after the first day
of January, 1872:-

Copying of Cases.

  1. That the Court will accept Cases in print, in-
    stead of writing.

  2. That when the cost of copying Cases for the
    Court in writing shall equal twice the amount for
    which they might have been printed, the cost of
    printing them only shall be allowed on taxation.

Given under our hands, at Wellington, this
twenty-seventh day of July, one thou-
sand eight hundred and seventy-one.
