A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Registration Act, 1858," it
is enacted that it shall be lawful for the
Governor at any time, by Proclamation in the New
Zealand Gazette
, to divide the Colony of New Zealand,
for the purposes of the said Act, into such and so
many districts as he may think fit, and that every
such district shall be called by a distinct name, and
shall be a Registrar's District; and it is provided that
the Governor may at any time revoke the whole or
any part of such Proclamation, and issue a new
Proclamation dividing the Colony or any part of it
anew into districts, or increasing the number or
altering the boundaries of districts, as from time to
time he may think requisite:

And whereas by a Proclamation duly made and
issued, bearing date the seventh day of September,
one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, the
Governor, in pursuance of the said recited power and
authority, did constitute districts for the purposes of
the said Act, called the "Greytown" and "Waira-
rapa" Districts, the boundaries whereof were therein
set forth, which said Proclamation came into opera-
tion and took effect on the first day of October, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-three:

And whereas by a Proclamation duly made and
issued, bearing date the twenty-seventh day of Sep-
tember, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six, the
Governor, in pursuance of the said recited power and
authority, did, amongst others, constitute a district, for
the purposes of the said Act, called the "Manawatu"
District, the boundaries whereof were therein set
forth, which said Proclamation came into operation
and took effect on the first day of November, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-six:

And whereas it is expedient to revoke so much of
the said Proclamations as relates to the said districts,
and to divide anew the territory formerly comprised
within such districts:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of the said Colony, in pursuance and exer-
cise of the power and authority vested in me by the
said recited Act, do hereby revoke the said Proclama-
tions so far as relates to the "Greytown" and
"Wairarapa" Districts, and to the "Manawatu"
District, and do proclaim and declare that the terri-
tory formerly comprised within such districts shall
be and is hereby divided for the purposes of the said
Act into five districts, the names and boundaries
whereof shall be as follows:-

GREYTOWN DISTRICT.
The boundary commences at the mouth of the
Whareama River; thence along the sea coast to Cape
Palliser, and continued to Taourakira Head; thence
along the Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges until it
intersects a line drawn West from the source of the
Waignawa River; thence along said line and along
the Waignawa River to its junction with the Ruama-
hanga River; thence on a line East to the Taueru
River; thence along the southern boundary of the
Castle Point District to the starting point.

MASTERTON DISTRICT.
Bounded towards the North by a portion of the
Palmerston District; on the East by the Castle Point
District; on the South by a portion of the Greytown
District; and on the West by the Manawatu Dis-
trict.

THE CASTLE POINT DISTRICT.
The boundary commences at the mouth of the
Waimata River; thence along the sea coast to the
mouth of the Whareama River; thence on a line
bearing West to the Taueru River; thence up said
river until it intersects a line bearing East and West
through Rangitumu Hill; thence along said line to
the Ruamahanga River; thence up said river until
it crosses the track through the Forty-Mile Bush;
thence along said track to the boundary of the Pro-
vince of Hawke's Bay; thence along said boundary
to the starting point.

PALMERSTON NORTH DISTRICT.
The boundary commences at the Gorge of the
Manawatu; thence down the Manawatu River to the
Oroua River; thence up the Oroua River to Awahuri,
where the main road line from Rangitikei to Palmer-
ston intersects it; thence along said main road line
to the Rangitikei River; thence up the Rangitikei
River to Waitapa; thence on a line East to the
Tararua Ranges; thence along the said ranges to the
starting point.

FOXTON DISTRICT.
The boundary commences at the Gorge of the
Manawatu; thence along the Tararua Ranges until
it meets a line drawn east from the source of the
Waikanae River; thence along said line and down
the Waikanae River to the sea coast; thence up the
