A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and
authority in me vested in this behalf by "The
Resident Magistrates Act, 1867," I, Sir George
Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that,
from and after the first day of September next, the
jurisdiction of the Resident Magistrates' Courts for
the

PAPAKURA DISTRICT, and
WAIUKU DISTRICT,

respectively, as the same are defined by Proclamation
bearing date the twenty-ninth day of November, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven, shall be
extended to Fifty Pounds.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same, at the Government
House, at Wellington; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, this sixth
day of September, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-one.

to be Receiver of Gold Revenue for Blacks, in the
Province of Otago.

make the under-mentioned promotions and
appointments, viz. :-

In the New Zealand Militia.
Ensign John Ralph Rees to be Captain. Date of
commission, 1st August, 1871.

In the Forest Rifle Volunteers.
Ensign James Mellsop to be Lieutenant. Date of
commission, 6th January, 1871.

In the Egmont Rifle Volunteers.
Allan Shaw Douglas to be Ensign. Date of com-
mission, 24th February, 1871.

In the Tauranga Cavalry Volunteers.
John Alfred Chadwick to be Captain. Date of com-
mission, 18th February, 1871.
David Connor to be Lieutenant. Date of commis-
sion, 15th April, 1871.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
cancel the notice in the New Zealand Gazette,
No. 7, of the 5th February, 1870, constituting the
"Administrative Battalion, Auckland Rifle Volun-
teers;" and to authorize Nos. 2, 3, 4, and 6 Com-
panies, Auckland Rifle Volunteers, to be constituted
into an Administrative Battalion under the designa-
tion of

"The Auckland Rifle Brigade,"

from the 1st August, 1871.

Also, to make the under-mentioned appointments,
viz.:-

Major William Gordon to command the Auck-
land Rifle Brigade; and
Lieut.-Colonel William Charles Lyon to be
Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in the same.
