at their own request.
The under-mentioned gentlemen have therefore
ceased to hold the rank of officers in the corps,
their commissions having, under the provisions of
"The Volunteers Act, 1865," lapsed :-
Frank Cohen, Esq., late Captain.
Charles Mills, Esq., late Lieutenant.
Thomas Brown, Esq., late Ensign.

REFERRING to the Notice in the New Zealand
Gazette of 27th July, 1871, to persons who
have been awarded the New Zealand War Medal for
service under the Imperial authorities, such persons
are now requested to send their applications for the
medal to the Officer Commanding the Militia District
within which they reside, instead of to the Officer
Commanding the Militia and Volunteers at the Chief
Town of the Province.
Applicants should state the corps to which they
belonged.
It is found necessary to state that the notice
referred to herein does not apply to Imperial soldiers
or to persons who claim the medal for service in the
Colonial Forces under Colonial Officers and in the
pay of the Colony, but only to those members of the
Colonial Forces who were paid from the Imperial
chest, and to whom medals have been awarded by the
Imperial authorities.
