IS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
grant Letters Patent under "The Patents Act,
1860," dated the 18th day of May, 1871, in favour of
JAMES MUNRO BERTRAM,
of Wangaehu, in the Province of Wellington, Farmer,
for an Invention " of a new method for preparing
Native Flax (Phormium Tenax), by the combination
of a number of simple mechanical processes succes-
sively applied in the order enumerated in the
specifications annexed to the said Letters Patent, for
separating the gum and other matter from the fibre
of the Native Flax."

declared that costs and expenses of witnesses are
allowable to Private Prosecutors out of the Con-
solidated Fund only in felonies and the misde-
meanours mentioned in the 61st and 68th sections of
"The Justices of the Peace Act, 1866."
