CENSUS OF NEW ZEALAND, FEBRUARY, 1871.

THE following Tables, showing the Numbers of the Population of the Provinces of Taranaki, Wellington,
Hawke's Bay, and Marlborough, as ascertained by Census taken for the night of the 27th February,
1871, are published in anticipation of further and more complete information. The figures, it is to be
understood, are subject to subsequent revision, but it is not probable that this will lead to any alteration
of practical importance. Similar information for the other Divisions of the Colony will be published
immediately after the receipt of it from the several Enumerators.

  • The Population of the Town of Napier (included in this Electoral District) was 2,179,—viz. 1,166 Males, and 1,013
    Females. The Numbers for the District include 54 Males and 8 Females connected with the Armed Constabulary.

PROVINCE OF MARLBOROUGH.

  • The Population of the Town of Picton (included in this Electoral District) was 498,—viz. 245 Males, and 253 Females.
    The Numbers for the District also include 138 Persons,—viz. 122 Males and 16 Females on ship-board in the Port of Picton
    on the Census night.
