A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the thirty-second section of "The
Westland Waste Lands Act, 1870," it is
enacted that the sites of towns shall from time to
time be determined by the Governor upon the recom-
mendation of the County Council, and shall be
notified by Proclamation in the County of Westland
Gazette: And whereas the said County Council has
recommended that the land described in the Schedule
hereto should be a site for a Town within the meaning
of the said section of the said Act:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
K.G.C.M.G., Governor of New Zealand, in exercise
and pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling
me in this behalf, do hereby determine and fix the
land described in the Schedule hereto to be a site for
a Town within the meaning of the thirty-second
section of the said Act.

SCHEDULE.
STAFFORD.

Twenty-three (23) acres more or less; bounded on
the Westward by the Police Camp for a distance of
four hundred and forty-nine (449) links; on the
Northward by a line bearing 309° 13' magnetic for a
distance of one thousand nine hundred and twelve
(1,912) links; on the Eastward by a line bearing
2° 26' magnetic for a distance of three hundred and
fifty-seven (357) links; and on the Southward by the
Waimea Creek.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at Wellington,
this twenty-fifth day of February, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-one.

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME,
GREETING:

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand intituled "The Regulation of
Elections Act, 1870," it is enacted that it shall be
lawful for the Governor, by Warrant under his hand,
from time to time to appoint Polling Places for each
Electoral District, within or within one mile of the
limits thereof, and to appoint any one of such Polling
Places to be the Principal Polling Place for the
District, and all or any of such Polling Places from
time to time to abolish, and to appoint other Polling
Places in lieu of those abolished, and that every such
Warrant shall be published in the New Zealand
Gazette: Provided always that no Polling Place
shall be appointed by the Governor under the said
Act unless he shall be first satisfied that the place
to be appointed is more convenient than any other
for at least twenty electors to record their votes
thereat:

And whereas by the said Act it is further enacted
that every election of the Superintendent or of a
Member of the Provincial Council of a Province shall
be conducted in the manner prescribed therein for
the election of Members of the House of Representa-
tives, and that the Governor shall have the same
powers of appointing and altering Polling Places and
Principal Polling Places for Electoral Districts for the
election of Superintendents and Members of Provin-
cial Councils as, under the provisions thereinbefore
contained, he has for electoral districts for election
of Members of the House of Representatives:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance of the power
and authority in me vested by the said Act, do
hereby appoint the following places to be additional
Polling Places for the Districts hereinafter mentioned,
for the election of Members of the Provincial Council
of the Province of Otago, namely:—

For the District of Makerewa—
Mr. W. Marten's House, Ryal Bush.

For the District of Waiopai—
Court House, Gladstone.
