IN exercise of the power in me for this purpose
vested by "The Customs Regulation Act, 1858,"
I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint that on
and from the day of the date hereof there shall be
within the Province of Taranaki a Port, to be called
THE PORT OF PATEA,
the limits whereof shall be as follows:-All such
portions of the sea, land, and river comprised within a
circle with a radius of two miles from the west head
entrance to Patea River.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same; and issued at Wel-
lington, this eighteenth day of February,
in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-one.

IN conformity with the provisions of "The Muni-
cipal Corporations Act, 1867," the following
Petition from Inhabitant Householders of Auckland,
for the City of Auckland to be constituted a Borough,
and Letter of Assent from the Superintendent of
Auckland, are published for general information; and
it is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor
will consider the Petition on the 24th day of April
next.

Saint George, Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over the Colony of New
Zealand, and Vice-Admiral of the same.
The Humble Petition of the undersigned Inhabi-
tant Householders resident within the City of
Auckland, in the Colony of New Zealand, the
boundaries whereof are hereinafter more par-
ticularly set forth.
SHOWETH,-

That the said City, with regard to levying rates
for the purpose of making, maintaining, and repairing
of the streets, lighting, sewerage, and other matters
for the order and good government of the said City,
is now under the management and control of a Board
of Commissioners, which was first established by
virtue of a Provincial Act intituled "The City Board
Act, 1863," Session XV., No. 7, amended by "The
City Board Act, 1863, Amendment Act," Session
XVI., No. 6, and "The City Board Act Amendment
Act, 1865," Session XVIII., No. 4. -
That the boundaries of the said City are as
follows:--Bounded on the North by the Waitemata
Harbour; on the East by suburban section number
ninety-six, by the middle of Stanley Street, from the
south-western angle of section number eleven of the
City of Auckland to the junction of Stanley Street
and Grafton Road, by the middle of Grafton Road,
from the junction of Stanley Street to the northern
boundary of lot number forty-one of suburban section
number three, and the northern boundary of lot
the middle of Symonds Street, from the north-
western angle of lot number eight of suburban section
number fifteen to the junction of Karangahape Road;
on the South by the middle of Karangahape Road,
from Symonds Street to the junction of Ponsonby
Road, and by the middle of Ponsonby Road; and on
the West by the middle of Franklin Street. -
That the said City contains fifteen thousand in-
habitants, or thereabouts. -
That the constitution of the said Board, and
the powers conferred upon the Commissioners by the
aforesaid Acts, are wholly inadequate to the proper
