ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At Wellington, this twenty-second day of October, 1870.
Present:
THE HONORABLE DONALD MCLEAN, NATIVE AND DEFENCE MINISTER, PRESIDING, AND MEMBERS OF
THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by "The Waste Lands Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in
Council at any time, and from time to time, to except from sale, and either reserve to Her Majesty
or dispose of in such other manner as for the public interest may seem best, such of the Waste Lands of the
Crown in any of the Provinces of the Colony as may be required for the purposes of Military Defence, or
for the construction of Trunk Lines of Road, or as sites for Public Buildings for the use of the General
Government, or for other purposes of public utility or convenience:
Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the Colony, in exercise and in pursuance of the power and authority in that behalf vested in
him, doth hereby except from sale and reserve to Her Majesty the several parcels of the Waste Lands of
the Crown particularly specified and described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes in the
said Schedule mentioned, and set opposite the description of the said parcel of land.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the several parcels of Waste Lands of the Crown particularly specified and
described in the Schedule hereunder written are required for the purposes mentioned and set opposite
to the description of the said parcels of Land respectively in the said Schedule; and that the same have been
respectively excepted from sale and reserved to Her Majesty by the Orders in Council bearing the dates
mentioned in the second column of the said Schedule.

THE following Despatch from Her Majesty's
State for the Colonies is published for general
information; and His Excel-
lency the Governor directs it to be notified that
applications for the Naval Cadetship should be ad-
dressed to the Hon. Colonial Secretary, at Welling-
ton, for His Excellency's information, before 1st
January, 1871, with the certificates of birth, educa-
tion, &c., and the other papers required by the
notices in the Gazette of 12th March, 1870, No. 13.
No application can be taken into consideration by
His Excellency, unless accompanied by all the neces-
sary documents.

SIR,-I have to call your attention to the Circular
Despatch from this Department, of the 25th October,
1865, and to remind you that if I do not receive
from you within the first quarter of the year 1871,
the name of a candidate for the Naval Cadetship,
which falls in that year to the Colony of New
Zealand, the nomination will be considered as having
lapsed.
