NOTES.

Mongonui.—Fine weather at this station; stormy on 19th and 20th from S.E., with heavy rain; thunder on 12th and 13th.
Prevailing winds from N.E. and S.E.

Auckland.—Pleasant weather during the month, very slight rain; very stormy on 20th, 21st, and 22nd; hail on 13th. Pre-
vailing wind from S.

Taranaki.—Stormy on 11th from N.E.; on 12th and 13th strong N.W. winds, with rain, and thunder, and lightning on 13th.
The weather was generally very fine; small rainfall; winds moderate, prevailed from S.E. Earthquake on 29th.

Napier.—Fine during early part of month; strong S.W. wind on 1st; from 10th to 21st generally wet; and on 22nd and 23rd
stormy from S.E., but no rain; pleasant weather for remainder of month; thick fog on 10th. Prevailing wind from S.E.

Wellington.—Dull and squally, with rain and hail on 1st from S.E.; fine bright dry N.W. weather from 2nd to evening of 5th,
when wind changed to S.E. and came on heavy rain and strong wind, which continued to morning of 7th, when wind shifted
to N. and brought fine weather, lasting until the 9th; from 10th to 14th wet and unpleasant, wind changing constantly
from N.W. to S.E.; from 15th to 17th bright warm weather and light wind from N.W.; 18th to 23rd, pleasant but cold,
and rather dull, only slight rain, wind S.E. and moderate; from 24th to 28th the weather was remarkably fine, bright clear
warm days with light N.W. breezes and fine nights; 29th and 30th dull, with strong wind at times, rain on morning of
29th. Prevailing wind from N.W.; brilliant aurora on night of 24th, also on 25th, but not so bright; two slight earth-
quake shocks early on morning of 30th.

Nelson.—Stormy from S. on 5th, with heavy rain; on 13th strong S.W. wind; also on 30th stormy from S.W.; thunder on
29th; otherwise weather fine, with slight rainfall. Prevailing wind S.W.

Christchurch.—Dull weather generally, with frequent rain; the total fall is below the average. Winds moderate, except on 26th,
when it was stormy from S.E., and 30th from N.W.; sleet or hail on 1st. Prevailing wind from E.

Bealey.—Fine clear weather generally, with slight rainfall and moderate winds; on 4th storm from N.W. with rain; and on
29th gale with heavy rain; also heavy rain on 30th from S.W. Prevailing wind from N.W.

Hokitika.—Strong winds from S.E. on 2nd and 3rd, but fine; also stormy on 15th and 16th from N. and N.W.; weather fine
and clear; strong wind from N.W. and heavy showers on 29th; also wet on 30th, and thunder, though calm. Very pleasant
clear weather during the month; slight rainfall; earthquake on 1st at 6.20 p.m. Prevailing wind S.E.

Dunedin.—Very fine bright clear weather during this month, except on 1st, when it was stormy from S.W., with hail and rain;
also hail on 11th and 12th; strong wind from N.E. on 25th. Prevailing wind from N.E.

Southland.—Exceedingly fine, dry, and calm throughout; prevailing wind from S.E. Brilliant aurora on 24th.

GENERAL REMARKS.

Weather generally fine throughout the Colony; small rainfall, and winds moderate.
