and determine the persons who, by virtue of such
dealings, contracts, and conveyances, are the legal or
equitable owners of the lands which have been the
subject of such Exchanges, and that whether such
dealings, contracts, and conveyances have been in
form dealings with, or contracts for, or conveyances
of lands purchased from the Plymouth Company of
New Zealand, or the New Zealand Company, or the
Crown, or have been in form dealings with, or con-
tracts for, or conveyances of lands part of the public
reserves of the Town of New Plymouth, or with, for,
and of lands for which land so purchased has been
agreed or arranged to be exchanged:
And whereas the above-named Commissioners,
having inquired into and investigated the matters
and things aforesaid, are informed and believe that
the under-named original owners, whose lands are
proposed to be taken and granted in exchange with-
out his or their consent, are absentees from the
Province of Taranaki and not known to be within
the Colony of New Zealand, or the heirs-at-law or
devisees of such owner or owners, such owner or
owners are hereby called to appear personally or by
his or their agent or agents before the said Commis-
sioners on the thirty-first day of May, 1871, at New
Plymouth, in the Province of Taranaki, in the Colony
aforesaid.
clause 9 of "The Public Domains Act, 1860," will be
strictly enforced:—
"Whoever shall do or attempt to do any of the
following things, without the license of the Governor,
upon or within the boundaries of this land, shall be
liable to a penalty, over and above the damage done,
not exceeding £20:—
"Light a fire.
"Wilfully break a fence, or any part of a fence.
"Wilfully dig or cut the sod.
"Shoot at any bird or animal with a gun or other
instrument.
"Wilfully take away, destroy, or injure any bird
or animal being upon the said land, or any egg
of any bird.
"Take away any wood, shrub, plant, or other
thing."

DISSOLUTION of Partnership.—Notice is hereby
given, that the Partnership between the under-
signed Edmund Peel Kenyon and Henry Dyer
Maddock, carrying on business as Barristers, At-
torneys-at-law, and Proctors, at Dunedin, in the
Province of Otago, and Colony of New Zealand,
under the style or firm of "Kenyon and Maddock,"
has been this day dissolved by mutual consent.
And notice is hereby further given, that the
business of the late firm will continue to be carried
on by Mr. Kenyon.
Dated at Dunedin, this twenty-seventh day of

NOTICE.—The Botanic Garden Reserve, Tinakori
Road, Wellington, being a fenced Public Domain,
the public are requested to assist the Curators in
protecting it from wanton injury; and offenders are
hereby cautioned that the following provisions of
THE NEW ZEALAND JUSTICE OF THE PEACE.
NOTICE.—A Supplement to the above work, con-
taining Memoranda of the Alterations made in
the Law affecting Justices by the legislation of last
Session, with other Addenda, &c., is now published,
and will be supplied gratuitously to all purchasers of
the work.

THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
SUBSCRIPTIONS.—The subscription is at the rate of £2
per annum, or 10s. 6d. per quarter, payable in advance.
An extra subscription of 10s. to the Gazette will entitle each
yearly subscriber to the Acts of the General Assembly as pub-
lished during the year.
Subscriptions are required to terminate with the quarters
ending March, June, September, or December. A less period
than three months cannot be subscribed for.
Single copies of the Gazette will be 1s. each.
ADVERTISEMENTS will be charged for according to the
following scale :—
For the first fifty words and under £ s. d.
For every eight words after the first fifty... 0 3 0
Headings, date lines, signatures, &c., re- 0 0 4
quiring to be printed in separate lines, to
be charged at, per line 0 0 4
Half-yearly Statements of Assets and
Liabilities of Mining Companies, &c..... 0 10 0
All advertisements should be written on one side of the paper,
and signatures, &c., should be written in a legible hand.
The number of insertions required must be written across
the face of the advertisement.
All applications for subscription or for the insertion of private
advertisements in the New Zealand Gazette, except from places
where agents have been appointed for that purpose, should be
addressed to the Government Printer, Wellington, and at the
same time, pre-payment (by money order when necessary) at
the above rates must be made to him.
Postage or duty stamps cannot in any case be received in
payment from any place at which post office orders are issued,
and under any circumstances are subject to a deduction at the
rate of one shilling in the pound.
Agents are appointed to receive advertisements for the New
Zealand Gazette at the following places :—
