HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
appoint the following gentlemen to be Regis-
trars of Marriages, and of Births, Deaths, and
Marriages, for the districts set opposite their names
respectively, as the same are defined in Proclama-
tions of 10th day of October, 1870, and published in
New Zealand Gazette, No. 56, of 11th day of October,
1870, viz:-

WALTER LAWRY BULLER, Esq., Wanganui;
ROBERT CHISENHALL HAMMERTON, Esq., New
Plymouth;
JAMES HIRST, Esq., Patea.

The above appointments are to take effect on and
from the 15th November next.

RICHARD WATSON WOON, Esq.,
to be Deputy of the Registrar of Marriages, and of
Births, Deaths, and Marriages, for the District of
Wanganui, as the same is defined in Proclamation
of 10th day of October, 1870, and published in New
Zealand Gazette, No. 56, of 11th day of October,
1870.

ENQUIRIES having been made respecting the
person particulars of whom are given below,
any one who can give any information respecting
him is requested to communicate with this office.

Name-Charles Bird.
Occupation-Gentleman.
General personal appearance-Of middle, or rather
short stature.
Usual residence before coming to the Colony-
London.

He is believed to be of middle age and married.
Left England about 1865, and was last heard of
about two years ago, at Dunedin.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
authorize
WILLIAM SMITH ATKINSON,
of Taranaki, to act as Interpreter under "The Native
Lands Act, 1865," and "The Native Lands Act,
1867;" his certificate to bear date the first day of
August, 1870.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION. - The notice of a Sale
of Confiscated Land in the Province of Auck-
land, to take place on the 19th of December, is hereby
Cancelled.

NOTICE is hereby given, that I, William Toogood,
of Wellington, in the Colony of
New Zealand, Engineer, did, on the 21st day of Sep-
tember, 1870, deposit with John Boyle Bennett, Esq.,
Registrar-General, the person appointed by the
Governor to receive petitions from persons desirous
of obtaining Letters Patent under "The Patents Act,
1860," a petition addressed to His Excellency the
Governor, accompanied with plans and specifications,
praying for the grant to me of Letters Patent under
"The Patents Act, 1860," for the exclusive use, right,
and benefit, within the Colony of New Zealand, of an
Invention of a Machine for the cleaning, dressing, and
preparing of the fibre of the Phormium tenax, China
Grass, and other vegetable fibres, as described in plans
and specifications deposited at the office of the said
John Boyle Bennett aforesaid. Any person wishing
to prefer any objection to the grant of such Letters
Patent is requested to send, within four months of
the publication of this notice, to the office or address
of the said John Boyle Bennett, a statement in
writing, setting forth the grounds of such objection,
subscribed with his proper name and address.
