appointments, viz. :-
In the New Zealand Militia.
Captain John James Atkinson, Adjutant of the
Otago Militia and Volunteers, to be Major. Date
of commission, 30th August, 1870.
Captain Commandant William Henry Hargreaves,
Lyttelton Artillery Volunteers, to be Major. Date
of commission, 5th September, 1870.
Captain Robert Paterson, No. 1 Company, Otago
Rifle Volunteers, to be Captain unattached. Date
of commission, 22nd September, 1868.

accept the resignation of the commission held by
Captain R. Paterson, No. 1 Company, Otago Rifle
Volunteers.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
disband
"The Razorback Rangers" Rifle Volunteers.
The under-mentioned gentlemen have therefore
ceased to hold the rank of officers in the corps, their
commissions having, under the provisions of "The
Volunteer Act, 1865," lapsed:-
Robert Proude, Esq., late Captain ;
John Jessup, Esq., late Lieutenant ;
James Parr, Esq., late Ensign.

appoint the under-mentioned Medical Officers
to be the officers to grant certificates of medical
exemption from service in the Militia, in accordance
with the provisions of "The Militia Act Amendment
Act, 1860":-
Assistant Surgeon F. W. Armitage, New Zealand
Militia, for the Tauranga Militia District.
Assistant Surgeon T. F. Baker, Armed Constabulary,
for the Opotiki Militia District.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from
the Marine Board at Port Adelaide, are pub-
lished for general information.

South Australia.
NOTICE is hereby given, that on and after the 1st
September, 1870, the use of Flags at the Semaphore
Signal Station, to denote the depth of water on the
inner bar, will be discontinued, and Symbols, as per
enclosed plan, will be used to show the change of
each three (3) inches.

TIDE SIGNALS for the INNER BAR of PORT ADELAIDE,
as exhibited from the Pilot Station on the Beach
on Le Fevre's Peninsula.
For 10 feet, one ball on yard, half-way out, south side
" 11 " one ball on yard half-way out, north side
" 12 " one ball on extreme yard-arm, south side
" 13 " one ball on extreme yard-arm, north side
" 14 " one ball on extreme yard-arm, south side,
and one at mast-head
" 15 " one ball on extreme yard-arm, north side,
and one at mast-head
" 16 " two balls on extreme yard-arm, south side,
(one under the other)
" 17 " two balls on extreme yard-arm, north
side (one under the other)
" 18 " one ball on extreme yard-arm, and one
half-way out, south side
" 19 " one ball on extreme yard-arm, and one
half-way out, north side
" 20 " one ball on extreme each yard-arm
" 21 " two balls on yard half-way out, south
side (one under the other)
" 22 " two balls on yard half-way out, north
side (one under the other)
" 23 " one ball on each yard-arm, half-way out
On and after the 1st September, 1870, for each
additional three inches over any of the preceding
signals, symbols will be used instead of flags :-
For 3 inches, a triangle on one yard-arm, with one
" 6 " of its angles pointing upwards
" 9 " a diamond on one yard-arm
" a triangle on one yard-arm, with one of
its angles pointing downwards.
South Australia.
DEEPENING OPERATIONS, INNER BAR, PORT
ADELAIDE.
NOTICE is hereby given, that six (6) extra Beacons
have been driven at the edge of the Cutting at present
being made through the Inner Bar.
These Beacons, in common with all other Red
Beacons, are to be kept on the starboard side in
entering the Harbour.

I, JOHN MUIR WAYLAND, Registrar of Joint
Stock Companies for the Provinces of Auckland
and Hawke's Bay, in the Colony of New Zealand,
do hereby notify that I have registered a Memoran-
dum of Association, with Articles of Association,
establishing a Company, with limited liability of the
shareholders therein, intituled
"The Mercury Bay Saw Mill Company, Limited."
The objects for which the Company is established,
are-"The production of sawn timber and dealing in
timber generally, and doing all such other things as
are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the
above objects."
And that, in pursuance of the provisions of "The
Joint Stock Companies Act, 1860," I have issued a
Certificate of Incorporation of the said Company,
bearing date this twenty-fifth day of August, one
thousand eight hundred and seventy.
