A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Marriage Act Amendment
Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful
for the Governor at any time, by Proclamation in
the New Zealand Gazette, to divide the Colony of
New Zealand, for the purposes of the said Act, into
such and so many districts as he may think fit, and
that every such district shall be called by a distinct
name, and shall be a Registrar's district; and it is
provided that the Governor may at any time revoke
the whole or any part of such Proclamation, and
issue a new Proclamation dividing the Colony or
any part of it anew into districts, or increasing the
number or altering the boundaries of districts, as
from time to time he may think requisite:
And whereas by a Proclamation duly made and
issued, bearing date the sixth day of July, one thou-
sand eight hundred and fifty-nine, the Governor, in
pursuance of the said recited power and authority,
did amongst others constitute districts for the pur-
poses of the said Act, called the "Takaka" and
"Motueka" Districts, the boundaries whereof were
therein set forth, which said Proclamation came into
operation and took effect on the first day of October,
one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine:
And whereas by a Proclamation duly made and
issued, bearing date the twenty-eighth day of
January, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two,
the Governor, in pursuance of the said recited power
and authority, did constitute a district for the
purposes of the said Act, called the "Nelson" Dis-
trict, the boundaries whereof were therein set forth,
which said Proclamation came into operation and
took effect on the first day of April, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-two:
And whereas by a Proclamation duly made and
issued, bearing date the seventh day of April, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-two, the Governor,
in pursuance of the said recited power and authority,
did amongst others constitute a district for the pur-
poses of the said Act, called the "Amuri" District,
the boundaries whereof were therein set forth, which
said Proclamation came into operation and took
effect on the second day of June, one thousand eight
hundred and sixty-two:
And whereas by a Proclamation duly made and
issued, bearing date the twenty-second day of May,
one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five, the
Governor, in pursuance of the said recited power
and authority, did constitute a district for the pur-
poses of the said Act, called the "Aorere" District,
the boundaries whereof were therein set forth, which
said Proclamation came into operation and took
effect on the first day of July, one thousand eight
hundred and sixty-five:
And whereas by a Proclamation duly made and
issued, bearing date the sixth day of August, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, the Governor,
in pursuance of the said recited power and authority,
did constitute districts for the purposes of the said
Act, called the "Buller" and "Cobden" Districts,
the boundaries whereof were therein set forth, which
said Proclamation came into operation and took
effect on the first day of September, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-eight:
And whereas by a Proclamation duly made and
issued, bearing date the thirty-first day of August,
one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, the
Governor, in pursuance of the said recited power and
authority, did constitute a district for the purposes
of the said Act, called the "Charleston" District,
the boundaries whereof were therein set forth, which
said Proclamation came into operation and took
effect on the first day of September, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-eight:
And whereas it is expedient to revoke so much of
the said Proclamations as relates to the said districts,
and to divide anew the territory formerly comprised
within such districts:
Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of the said Colony, in pursuance and
exercise of the power and authority vested in me by
the said recited Act, do hereby revoke the said
Proclamations so far as relates to the said districts,
and do proclaim and declare that the territory
formerly comprised within such districts shall be
and is hereby divided, for the purposes of the said
Act, into nine districts, the names and boundaries
whereof shall be as follows:-
AORERE DISTRICT.
Commencing at the mouth of the River Heaphy;
thence along the sea coast to Rangihaeta Head,
Golden Bay; thence by the water-shed line, which
includes all the streams between Rangihacta Head
and the mouth of the Aorere, the River Aorere and
its tributaries, and the Heaphy and its tributaries, to
the mouth of the said River Heaphy.
TAKAKA DISTRICT.
Commencing at Rangihaeta Head, Golden Bay;
thence Westward and Southward along the boundary
of the Aorere District to the summit of the range
dividing the Takaka and Karamea Valleys; thence
following the water-shed line, which includes the
drainage area of the River Takaka and its tribu-
taries, to Mount Arthur; thence along the main
range between the Takaka and Motueka and Riwaka
Valleys to Mount Richards; thence by a leading
spur to the south headland of Bark Bay; thence
along the coast to Rangihaeta Head, including all
the Islands adjacent.
MOTUEKA DISTRICT.
Commencing at the south headland of Bark Bay,
following a leading spur to Mount Richards; thence
along the water-shed line between the Motueka,
Takaka, and Riwaka Valleys, to the summit of
Mount Arthur; thence by the water-shed line, which
includes all the drainage area of the River Pearse, to
the junction of the Rivers Motueka and Dove;
thence by the River Dove to the main road leading
from the Village of Thorpe to the Moutere; thence
along the said road to the Educational Reserve,
section 38, Square III.; thence by a line in the same
direction to the road on the ridge between sections
37 and 38, Square III.; thence along the said road
by the Red Hill to the Village of Bronti (and in-
cluding that village); thence by the sea coast to the
south headland of Bark Bay.
NELSON DISTRICT.
Commencing at the eastern point of the last-
named boundary at the Village of Bronti, and fol-
lowing the southern boundary of the Motueka
District to the junction of the Rivers Dove and
Motueka; thence Southward by the Motueka River
to the division line between sections 83 and 85,
Square VI.; thence along that line and continuation
to Stanley Brook; thence along Stanley Brook to
the track leading from Wangapeka to Pigeon Valley;
thence along the track and road through Pigeon
Valley to the River Wai-iti; thence along the River
Wai-iti to its junction with the River Wairoa; thence
up the Wairoa to its junction with the River Roding;
thence by the River Roding to its junction with
the River Ice; thence by the River Lee to a
point due North magnetic from the summit of
Mount Rintoul; thence to the summit of Mount
Rintoul; thence by the boundary line between the
Provinces of Nelson and Marlborough to Point
Dickens; thence by the sea coast to the Village
of Bronti, including all the Islands adjacent.
