TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME,
GREETING:
WHEREAS by "The Regulation of Elections
Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful
for the Governor, by Warrant under his hand, from
time to time to appoint polling places for each
Electoral District, within or without the limits
thereof, and to appoint any one of such places to be
the principal polling place for the district, and all or
any of such polling places at any time to abolish and
to appoint other polling places in lieu thereof:
Now therefore, the Governor of New Zealand, in
pursuance of the power and authority in him vested,
by the said Act, doth hereby appoint the following
place to be an additional polling place for the
Electoral District hereinafter specified, for the
election of Members of the House of Representa-
tives, namely:
For the District of Waikouaitiβ
The School House, Merton.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same; and issued at
Wellington, this twenty-third day of
February, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and seventy.

IS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
grant Letters Patent under "The Patents Act,
1860," dated 18th instant, in favour of
MARMADUKE CONSTABLE,
of Grahamstown, near Auckland, in the Colony of
New Zealand, Gentleman, and
GEORGE ELEMENT,
of the same place, Smelter, for an Invention of "a
mode for extracting Gold, Silver, Lead, or Copper
from their Matrix; as also to smelt Iron Sand by the
application of Heat, Roasting, Fluxing, and Smelting,
and by the use of various Desulpherizers and Fluxes,
as detailed in the specification annexed to the said
Letters Patent."

JOHN JOURNEAUX,
of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, at present
residing in the City of Wellington, in the Colony
of New Zealand, Esquire, for an Invention for "a
Machine and a Process by means thereof for Manu-
facturing the Fibre of the New Zealand Flax (Phor-
mium tenax) and for the Preparation of the Gum of
the said Flax into an article of Commerce."
