ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
fourth day of May, 1869.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS at a sitting of the Native Lands
Court of New Zealand held at Matamata, in
the District of Waikato, Province of Auckland, on
the twenty-second day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-nine, the claim of Hakiriwhi
and others to a piece of land called Te Aroha, situate
at Upper Thames, was heard, and a certain order
was thereupon made by the Court aforesaid: And
whereas it is enacted by "The Native Lands Act,
1865," and "The Native Lands Act, 1867," that the
Governor in Council may order a rehearing of any
matter judicially heard before the Court aforesaid,
before one or more Judges of the Court, and one or
more Assessors, as may be specified in the Order in
Council ordering such rehearing, and within such a
period of time as may be limited in such Order,
provided that no such order for a rehearing shall be
made after six months shall have elapsed from the
date of the original decision: And whereas it is
expedient that the said claim shall be reheard before
the said Court:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of
the Colony, in pursuance and exercise of the above
recited power and authority, doth hereby order that
the aforesaid claim of Hakiriwhi and others to the
aforesaid piece of land shall be reheard before two
Judges and two Assessors of the Native Lands
Court; and doth order that such rehearing shall
take place before the thirty-first day of December,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

Esquire, a Member of the House of Represen-
tatives; William Hunter Reynolds, Esquire,
a Member of the House of Representatives;
Henry Howorth, Esquire, a Member of the
House of Representatives; George Maurice
O'Rorke, Esquire, a Member of the House
of Representatives; Edward Cephas John
Stevens, Esquire, a Member of the House of
Representatives; and Jonas Woodward,
Esquire, Receiver-General:

WHEREAS it is expedient to make inquiry into
the Laws relating to Building and Land
Societies and the operation thereof, and I have
thought fit, by and with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of the Colony of New Zealand,
to appoint you to be Commissioners to make such
inquiry:

Now know ye, that I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
G.C.M.G., reposing special trust in your knowledge
and ability, have thought fit, by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council, to constitute
and appoint, and by these Presents, by and with
such advice and consent, do constitute and appoint
you

OSWALD CURTIS,
NATHANIEL EDWARDS,
WILLIAM HUNTER REYNOLDS,
HENRY HOWORTH,
GEORGE MAURICE O'RORKE,
EDWARD CEPHAS JOHN STEVENS, and
JONAS WOODWARD,

to be Commissioners to investigate and report upon
the Laws relating to Building and Land Societies, the
operation of such Laws, and the working of such
Societies, and to make such suggestions in connection
therewith as to you may seem fit: And I do, by these
presents, by and with the advice and consent afore-
said, grant to you, or any two of you, full power and
authority to carry into effect the purposes of this
Commission by all lawful ways and means whatever:
And I do, by these presents, ordain that this Com-
mission shall continue in full force and virtue; and
that you, the said Commissioners, or any two of you,
shall and may, from time to time, and at any place,
proceed in the execution thereof, although the same
be not continued from time to time by adjournment:
And I do further will and direct that you do, within
six months after the date of this Commission, or as
much sooner as the same can be done (using all
diligence), certify to me, under your hands and seals,
or under the hands and seals of any three of you,
your several proceedings and your opinion touching
the premises.

Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over the said Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same, at the Government
House, at Wellington; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony this twenty-
fifth day of August, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and
sixty-nine.

WHEREAS by "The Otago Municipal Corpora-
tions Empowering Act, 1865," it is enacted
that it shall be lawful for the Governor to appoint
the person elected to be Mayor of any city or
incorporated town as therein mentioned to be a
Justice of the Peace for the Colony, provided that
in every such case such appointment shall continue
no longer than the Mayoralty of such person: And
whereas George Wellington Goodger, Esquire, has
been elected Mayor of the Incorporated Town of
Cromwell, in the Province of Otago:

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance and in
exercise of the power and authority vested in me in
that behalf, do hereby appoint the said

GEORGE WELLINGTON GOODGER, Esq.,

to be a Justice of the Peace for the Colony of New
Zealand.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
